Turkey Time MMP(Somebody's gotta do it!)

4 days till Thanksgiving for the American Mumpers, What are y’all having for dinner Thursday? Are you doing traditional or something daring(I did a Cajun style Thanksgiving once: Blackened Cornish Hen, and red beans and rice) I’m going to have dinner at a friend’s house.

We still haven’t decided yet. It probably won’t be turkey, though, since DH doesn’t care for it. We may just go out, since we don’t live near enough any relatives to get together with them.

Second!

I’m not one of you furriners so on Thursday I will be having leftovers from whatever I make on Wednesday. And what I make on Wednesday depends on what sort of meat I pull out of the freezer in the morning.

Nice end to the weekend, good day at mum’s doing all the things on her list and got home in one piece again. Today I am in my new office in the Philosophy buildilng - the view’s much nicer than the Arts buildling was!

So far the people have been nice too, they’ve all come in to say hello which is always a good sign. I have no access to any of the computer systems yet but hopefully that will come fairly quickly.

Ho hum. What to do next? Oh, I know…I’ll put the kettle on!

Most of the meat I eat tends to be turkey.
Otherwise no reason why I should be eating turkey on Thursday…

(As transplanted Americans, we used to celebrate while my mother was alive, but it’s sort of stopped since then)

If Cousin is coming out to join me, I’ll stop at Boston Market Wednesday after work and pick up a feast. Otherwise I have a Healthy Choice turkey dinner waiting for me in the freezer.

Blurf.

It’s simultaneoulsy Monday and Firday. w00t!

I’ll be making traditional turkey feast for two, because VWife cannot comprehend anything else on Thanksgiving. Roast beast would be fine for me, if I had a say in the matter.

I’ll be making the traditional stuff at home and then taking a little cheese spread and crostini appetizer to the HFUNs. No idea what they’re having, I probably won’t eat much there anyways after already having just eaten at home.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up, caffienated, purtified and, alas, at irk. 'Tis a lovely sunny 50 Amurrkin out with a predicted high of 68 for the day. Also, tonight is men’s night over to the church house which is always a good time.

I am hostin’ TurkeyDay at da cave for several (twelve to be exact) friends. I am makin’ the turkey, dressin’, gravy (if the gravy ain’t right might as well throw everything away!), and sweet N.O.T. pie. Other stuff is bein’ provided by well, others. I know there will be fresh green beans, squish casserole, asparagus, rolls, shuddergreen bean casserole shudder, that red Jell-O mold thing which is the only one I like, some kind of appetizer(s), pee-kahn pie (yum!), Mennonite Ladies caramel cake (yum!), wine and of course, iced tea. We shall feast large!

OYKW is leavin’ Wednesday mornin’ to go spend some time with his family. I’ll go up to ye olde hometowne on Sattidy mornin’ to be with family and have another Turkey feast that afternoon. Both of us will be back some time Sunday afternoon/evenin’. He has a loooooong five to six hour drive so I imagine he’ll just go to his place and crash as, like it or not, irk time will happen on Monday.

Apes prayers, good thoughts and appropriate/inappropriate appendages crossed for ya today. You’ll do good!

StickyBuns here’s hopin’ today is less sucky and that you get your bed put together if you haven’t already.

ETA: I forgot cranberry sauce from a can. Deal with it, I like it.

Happy Monday Y’all!

Canned Cranberry sauce is yum. I like the chunky kind. Off season, I mix it with vanilla yogurt for breakfast.

We’re driving to meet family for a traditional meal, but I’ll deep fry one turkey too and bring it along. Plus I’ve had a lot of sausage made this year, sweet chipotle, jalapeno & cheese, so there’ll be tons for the gravies.

Rosie I like the chunky kind too but the jellied cranberry sauce, the kind that makes that shhwump sound when it slides out of the can, is de rigueur for the next day sammich of turkey, dressin’, gravy and cranberry sauce. One must never mess with the ingredients for the next day turkey sammich.

Swampy, your turkey day dinner sounds wonderful. Please will you adopt me?

I love how the cranberry jelly comes out shaped like the can. I guess that was for back in the old days so you’d know how thick to slice it for Ma, Pa and the 18 kids.

We’re heading for the big family hoo-ha. My husband’s family practically runs a defunct town three hours from here; I don’t think it’s incorporated any more, but they’re in charge of the church and community buildings and since there are only like six houses, well, they’re in charge of an awful lot of those. Thanksgiving is the annual family reunion.

It’s traditional. My MIL provides turkey, gravy, and stuffing. Somebody brings cranberry sauce. Lots of people bring other side dishes and desserts. We feast on the leftovers all weekend.

It’s a good time. Exhausting, but a good time. I think this year, due to child politics, my husband and I will score the room with a king size bed, which will lead to better sleep which will lead to a far easier weekend than in the past.

Morning Mumpers.

At the Jynxster house hold we shall be ingesting the following:

Capon
Duck
Green Beans w/ slivered almonds
Mashed Not Taters
Chedder Cheese Butternut Squish Casserole

Happy Monday all

Can’t believe I just said that, will head out about noon for shopping trip part one. Will buy turkey fixins and most of the other stuff, including leg of lamb noommmmm.

Jim

Have your lawyer draw up the papers.

I say come to my house around one TDay afternoon for N.O.L. and we’ll get Jynx to schedule dindin for around 7 p.m. so we’ll have time to digest before headin’ over to her house.

A reminder: if your turkey is still frozen, move it from the freezer to the refrigerator today and it might thaw by Thursday. Tomorrow is too late.

You poor thing!

Good gad!
That looks like something they eat on The Walking Dead. Or something that eats Our Heroes.
I buy and freeze as many bags of cranberries as I can fit into the freezer this time of year. Cranberries, sugar and water, boiled down to…well, sauce.
Ambrosia!
