The Canadope Café, 2014 Edition: In 3-D!

^ Two thumbs up.

Nah - I watched the anthem, which was great for a change, and then went to get some work done. I just opened the computer again - apparently, it’s another one of those blowout games where one side is just getting the shit kicked out of them.

Jon Ryan, product of Sheldon-Williams Collegiate and the Regina Rams, just kicked a nice punt.

Still, I bet he was wishing he was playing for the Riders in the Cup. :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, see, THAT would be an honour!

A bunch of guys ran around for a while, some of them ran across the end zone line multiple times, the other side only managed that once. That sure was a whole lotta hype for this result.

Twice, actually - they scored a two point conversion on the TD.

Say, you’re not gonna be a downer like this in the Olympics are you?

“A bunch of guys skated around for a while, some of them put the puck in the net multiple times, the other side only managed that once.”

We’ll have to kick you out of Club Canada if you start talking that way.

I wasn’t paying a lot of attention.

I’m not much of a sports person - that sounds like all the hockey games I’ve ever seen. About all I really notice is goalie fights.

Meet my nieces. 52 seconds in.

Very cute girls.

It’s a balmy -15C in Calgary right now, with a forecasted high of -21C tomorrow. Time to bundle up if I’m gonna go shovel the walk.

Oh God. We just went through a brutally cold January here in eastern Ontario. It finally just warmed up to seasonal temperatures. Please don’t send it this way.

Dude, -20 isn’t brutally cold. It’s just winter.

What everyone else can’t see is your Superman onesie that you have on below the Batman mask.

Sorry - the weather usually goes from west to east. :frowning:

This is really, really cool - Montreal firm PixMob turns Super Bowl crowd into human pixels.

Not to mention the peppery collective nipple slip.

I’ve been PMing and emailing with Spoons a bit back and forth about my articling woes for a while. Now I found out that all my friends who were going to Heenan Blaikie got their offers pulled, as well!

Is the collapse of such a big firm big news in Canada, or is it just so for me because of law school blinders?

I’ve never heard of Heenan Blaikie, and I hadn’t heard of them dissolving their firm before your post, so it isn’t huge news yet. Maybe I’ll hear about it on the new tonight.

Well, it was one of the bigger law firms in Canada–top 10 in terms of number of lawyers, if my memory serves me well–and they were known in large part for how many former Prime Ministers, Premiers, Supreme Court Benchers and other famous business/law type they hired on. Trudeau and Chretien, to name but two. Picking up semi-retired superstars like the Detroit Red Wings of law firms.

Nope, nothing on the news today that I saw. It does sound like kind of a big deal.

I read the news today–oh, boy.

Agree with Antonio on this one. Heenan Blaikie is a big player in Canadian law, with a number of well-known and respected lawyers, some of whom came to the firm after other careers. It was a little shocking to read the news item on this earlier today–they were a place that seemed to be in the “too big to fail” category.
