Maybe I’m wrong (it’s happened once or twice ) and the general population of Quebec does indeed get how Separation would go for them, but I really don’t get that impression from what I’ve heard and read.
Do we have any Quebec Dopers available for a comment?
Well a poll from a couple of weeks ago indicated that if a referendum were held “Would you vote for an independent Quebec”, a very clear question. I think it was something like 61% voted no.
So I believe a lot of them are aware what it real independence means, or should mean anyways.
More interesting CBC not long ago conducted a survey regarding leaving Quebec. They asked if the PQ won a majority would you leave, they were particularly interested in Quebec Anglos which I believe 50% of them would consider leaving.
But what was interesting was that 11% of Francophones polled answered the same, they’d consider moving out as well. 50% of anglophones isn’t a large number but 11% of Francophones is about 700 000.
I think it would be bad for everyone if they did separate, but more so for Quebec. But I don’t think there will be any “please stay” rallies in Montreal this time, and I don’t think there should be. If they want to go, go. If it’s independence the want, it should be independence they get, and if we have a PM in power at the time that tries to negotiate anything less than that, we owe it to our country to collectively lose our shit and not allow that to happen.
Enough, I’ve had enough. That’s why I’m moving to Ottawa this July anyways. I’d rather move further west to be honest. But Ottawa will have to do for now. I’m not moving out mad, just moving out. Because the political/economic climate here has exhausted me.
Hah. That actually reminds me of a post I once made on that very subject. I was quite proud of that post.
Astonishingly, they didn’t do that to us this year. I mean, sure, February and the beginning of March were ludicrously cold, but the forecast never gave us any false hope. And then when it did start looking up, the warm weather actually arrived on schedule. We had three whole days above zero this week!
It’s a comedy bit where a husband (Rick) and wife are fed up with winter.
I tried summarizing it but can’t do it justice. It sums up how all of us the east feel about this damned winter. It’s always going to be above zero at some point, but we just never seem to get there.
It was… plus one today! There was even a bit of sunshine!
But when I got to the train station, there was a cold-weather alert and the screens said it was going to drop to [del]-10[/del] Sorry. -14… As I boarded the train, it started to snow.

Having spoken of dangerous drivers on Highway 17 in this thread before, I spottedthis videofrom someone’s dashboard camera. Spoiler - everyone is all right, but this must have been terrifying… The driver of the vehicle that was hit is being charged with distracted driving.
I’ve been known to say things like, “Distracted drivers should be charged with attempted murder.” I’m just trying to go get some groceries here - I don’t need these thoughtless assholes trying to kill me every time I get on the road.
I’ve seen this before. Did someone else link to it previously? Or maybe I just saw it elsewhere?
It’s my worst nightmare driving highway 17 daily. Actually it’s my worst nightmare being a passenger on highway 17 daily.
I’ve been watching ‘Car Crash Compilation 7’ videos on YouTube. A couple of things I’ve learned: get a dash cam - it is the only way to prove you weren’t at fault when trying to avoid idiots on the road. Also, never drive a motorcycle - never ever.
I’m glad I’m in transit friendly Hong Kong
We did have it before–I believe that Muffin brought it up.
Still, it has been in the news lately again, as the pickup truck’s driver has been formally charged. And let’s face it, there is no harm in being reminded of the dangers of distracted driving.
