The Canadope Café, 2014 Edition: In 3-D!

Proof of which of the two press releases is more accurate? Well, it’s pretty much he said/she said at this point, but I’m rather inclined to take the Chief Justice at her word.

Is it really snowing in Calgary?

This is what the Weather Network says:

I can’t imagine. Cat and Jim must be suicidal by now.

Yeah, I just heard that it was snowing in Calgary and I came to this thread to see if it was true.

I’m ready to flip out. Earlier this week I filled the bbq tank and had it going, was raking the yard to clean the junk off of it and my BF started the beast (his motorbike) and moved it out front (ok, that one may have been premature).

When I looked out the window this morning my exact words may have been along the lines of ‘What the hell?’

Depressingly, yes, and in a significant amount. It’s barely below zero so it’s sort of melting as fast it’s falling right now, but I’d say there’s about two inches on the ground right now and still going.

There were two straight May longs about 5-6 years ago where it snowed. We’re never quite clear until June hits. Or maybe until Stampede is over.

The former Parti Québécois government is being accused of lying about the legal justification for its Charter of Values.

The former PQ minister responsible for the values Charter, Bernard Drainville, asserted before tabling the bill, and during the election, that it was on solid legal ground.

Premier Couillard has now asked the Quebec Justice Ministry for a copy of any legal opinions prepared in this issue. The Deputy Minister has responded that the Ministry was never asked for its opinion.

The PQ has responded to that by saying it consulted a law prof, a retired Supreme Court justice, and and a former head of the Bar.

The law prof has now denied giving any formal opinion, just an interview, and it sounds like they consulted the former judge after the bill was introduced and the PQ Government was starting to take the heat.

NW Calgary here. I’ve got about 3" on the lawn right now, still snowing. :frowning:

There’s a part of me that wants to point and laugh because, hey, you Calgarians and your chinooks laughing at us all winter deserve it. But there’s another part of me that’s terrified that you’re sending that mess our way.

Where’s the shaking in fear smiley?

Mrs Piper is out raking the lawn, and I’m getting ready for our second BBQ of the spring, on a warm sunny afternoon.

Board rules prevent me from saying what I want to say to you.

Oh I know that. One of those years was a snow like the one outside now which took out a tree and lamp post beside my house. Hell I remember waking up one July to a thundersnow… but those came after a longer than 3 days of nice weather didn’t they?

Apparently what they are replacing it with is piles of money; the Conservatives have already committed to years of further health care increases.

There is no particular reason for a “health accord” to exist; the government always did before, and plans to continue in the future, transferring billions to the provinces earmarked for health care. Going to the trouble of naming it and making a big deal about a ten-year commitment to keep doing it was a PR move.

Just to put the Bev-Steve spat in context, he’s lost five major cases in a month in the SCC, which could make anyone a tad tetchy:

We had rain here today, but there was snow yesterday. I hope that was the last time I had to brush the snow off the car. (Fingers crossed.)

I would concur.

2006: Globe endorses Tories
[QUOTE=Globe’s 2008 election endorsement: Harper is growing into the job]
On balance, Mr. Harper remains the best man for the job in the tough times now upon us. He deserves if not four more years, at least two more years. By all logic, he should be cruising to an easy majority.

[QUOTE=The Globe’s 2011 election endorsement: Facing up to our challenges]
Only Stephen Harper and the Conservative Party have shown the leadership, the bullheadedness (let’s call it what it is) and the discipline this country needs.

Calling all Ottawa Dopers to the tulip festival on the long weekend.

It’s time for Ottawa Dope Fest 2014.

We make rare exceptions for people from Montreal, aussi.

I’m not convinced two endorsements for a party running against extremely weak opponents constitutes a significant degree of “partisanship.” All newspapers make election endorsements and the Globe is willing to endorse the Liberals, as they did in 1997 and 2000.

They aren’t remotely as partisan as the Toronto Star or the National Post, and partisanship is better demonstrated in the papers’ manner of covering and writing stories and columns. In that regard the Star is almost comically partisan, with the Post not far behind, while the Globe is as even handed as any newspaper.

Calgary snow update: The roads and sidewalks seem to be dry around our house, but the grass is mostly snow covered and I can see a few snowflakes still coming down.

My baseball team had its first two games of the season snowed out this weekend and it doesn’t look good to start playing until at least next weekend when (hopefully) the fields are dried out again.
