The Canadope Café 2016: The North Awakens

House is rattling from the 21 gun salute in front of the Saskatchewan Legislature!

149 years! HAPPY BIRTHDAY CANADA!

It figures that Canada Day is the coolest and wettest day in weeks.

On the grounds of SK Lege, in line at Baba’s Food Spot, to get a couple of orders of perogies - one dill and one caramelised onions. Mmmmm.

An oversight, I’m sure, Le Minstre. Next year, definitely.

Interesting to see an old high school acquaintance on the list.

So far, I’m spending my Canada Day watching the Blue Jays marathon; I mean game. Currently in the 14th inning. Let’s go Blue Jays!

I’ve got the nail-biter game on too Spoons.

Very entertaining!

Yes, but a real nail-biter, as you suggest. Especially after the bottom of the 16th!

Heading into the 17th inning now…

This is the longest ball game I’ve ever watched in its entirety. What a great way to spend Canada day though. (As long as they win!)

Longest game I’ve ever seen also–as was said, it’s now the equivalent of two games.

Holy hannah! Barney is now going to pitch for the Jays?

Damn. But what a game.

Yeah. At least the Jays made Cleveland work for their win. Oh well. That’s baseball.

Good luck tomorrow, Blue Jays!

Happy Canada Day!

Thanks. I think you’re the only US citizen who hangs out here.

I appreciate your feedback. (As I’m sure all my Canadian friends do.)

Just back from an impressive fireworks display in Wascana Park. They had two new ones tonight that I’d not seen before: a valentine heart and a red happy face with little blue eyes.

Off to bed.

Stupid, rainy miserable here in Petawawa after weeks of glorious weather. And the glorious weather resumes tomorrow.

Weird.

The 99th Memorial for the Newfoundland Regiment yesterday:

Vast tribute for the Royal Newfoundland Regiment, 100 years after Beaumont-Hamel:

Would have loved to see it in person.

My pleasure. The U.S. is fortunate indeed to have a country as great and friendly as yours to our north.

You may be pleased to know I’m visiting Toronto with my family, ate poutine for the first time yesterday, and even saw some Canada Day fireworks.

And let me be the first Canuck to wish you a Happy Fourth of July!

Toronto is my hometown, and I know it like the back of my hand. How are you spending your time in Toronto, if I may ask?

I’ve never watched an LPGA event before. But this Brooke Henderson is really something. After the Jays game today I switched to the LPGA event.

Brooke is no doubt poised to be the best female golfer in the world. Which is something to say for a kid from Smith’s Falls Ontario: in my back yard.

Such poise.

They’re on the 18th green now. She’s going to win this.

Thank you!

Had a great time in your fair city, and visited:

Royal Ontario Museum
Casa Loma castle
CN Tower
Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO)
Ontario Science Center
Ontario Legislative Building
Toronto Botanical Garden
