Lyn Nofziger, who served as Ronald Reagan’s communications director when Reagan was governor of California, has died at the age of 81. When Reagan was elected President of the United States, Nofziger followed him to Washington, and worked as Reagan’s assistant for political affairs before taking over as press spokesman after Press Secretary James Brady was wounded in John Hinckley’s attempt to assassinate Reagan.
A bad day for members of Regan’s cabinet – Caspar Weinberger, dead at 88. Opus the Penguin to deliver eulogy.
AP is reporting that he will be a friendly ghost.
I’m happy to announce that I am no longer a virgin. I’m horrified to announce that I lost it Caspar Weinberger.
But hey, 12 points.
Er–that should be "lost it to Caspar Weinberger.
Carry on.
I too, have ended my Celebrity Death Pool dry spell with Mr. Weinberger’s passing.
Now, if only Bucky Covington gets eliminated tomorrow and the Dick Van Dyke Show wins the Sitcom March Madness, I’ll have a hat trick!
Woo hoo! 16 points for me!
Er, I mean, how sad…
Howard “Red” Hickey, who was head coach of the San Francisco 49ers from 1959 to 1963, has died at the age of 89. As an assistant with the NFL team, he concocted the “alley-oop” pass. While at the helm, Hickey brought the shotgun formation into prominence. He later served as lead scout for the Dallas Cowboys, whose prominence in the 1970’s was significantly attributable to Hickey’s discovery of players and his teaching of shotgun principles to quarterback Roger Staubach.
Jazz musician Jackie McLean died yesterday at the age of 73.
Will we be getting an update soon, on totals? I know I’m nowhere near the lead, I’m just curious as to who is.
Today is the one year anniversay of Pope JPII passing.
Pope-palooza Death Watch was a good time.
::::sniff:::::::
Well, lots of stiffs, not so much scoring. Here is an update on the scoring, and I will try to post an updated scoreboard tomorrow.
I have decided to invoke Rule #5 with regard to Grandpa Munster, aka Al Lewis. I thought I could figure it out, but I’ve read the discussion and the article on Wikipedia and I’m more confused than ever. The heck with it – Rule #5 says he’s worth 5 points.
Here are the updates:
ArchitectChore also has Lou Rawls, worth 28 points.
Menocchio also also has Lou Rawls, still worth 28 points.
cadolphin has Coretta Scott King, worth 22 points.

Gloria Monty, who helped turn General Hospital from a slumping soap opera to a Newsweek cover subject after taking over as producer of the daytime drama in 1978, has died at the age of 84. Monty engineered the GH romance of Luke (Tony Geary) and Laura (Genie Francis), which started with a rape in a disco and culminated in a 1981 wedding which drew 30,000,000 viewers.
Incidentally, AOL is currently running the quiz (described on this page) that continues to insist Telly Savalas is still alive.
Thanks for the work, a35362, but I think a bunch of us got some points for poor Wendy Wasserstein.
Lou Rawls is my only hit this year.
sniff
I’ve been forgotten…
Oh…I somehow overlooked Grits and Hard Toast’s post about Roy Chapman’s dirt nap. That’s 4 down and 9 to go. Those remaining should not feel safe.
The Vorlon also picked Andreas Katsulas.
Hey, I had Coretta Scott King, too. I need to be added to the list.
