The Celebrity Death Pool 2006

Khmer Rouge official Ta Mok passed on while awaiting trial for crimes against humanity.

I always liked him. And now I get 15 points for him!

Rockin’! I leave for three weeks and get 12 points!

Tied for ninth–not too bad. My strategy of choosing younger 'uns is working out, although I’m still pretty sad about Wendy Wasserstein.

I have zero on my list; I will begin making a list of candidates (about 50 people probably) in late November, and then the final 13 “winners” will be drafted on New Year’s Eve . Though, I’m not exactly a true Dead Pooler or at least not a Dead Pooler of the caliber of Rachm Qoch and company.

It’s looks like I’m in 7th place right now with four dead celebs picked. I was in the running until Dana Reeve took a dirt nap. Zargawi’s last supper with missile shrapnel basically sealed the deal. Ah well, 128 points is an improvement over the previous 2 times that I participated in the contest.

229: Very impressive, uglybeech!!

Jim West, whose political career ended last year after being charged with sex crimes, is dead at 55.

The actor Mako has died.

I think the first thing I remember seeing him in was the movie The Hawaiians. I know he did much film and TV work, but wasn’t aware of all the stage work he did.

NYC ex-Congressman/power broker Thomas Manton has died.

Here’s a link for the actor Mako that doesn’t require registration.

Right now I’ve only got 13 on deck. I’m sure it will get up to some unmanageable number by late December, though.

Robert Mardian, who was accused of conspiracy to obstruct justice during the Watergate scandal, has died at the age of 82. While serving as the attorney for Richard Nixon’s CREEP (the Committee to Re-Elect the President), Mardian interviewed participants in the break-in that had been aimed at Democratic National Committee headquarters. Although the government held that Mardian’s conversations were intended to help conceal the full range of the Nixon administration’s participation in the burglary and attempted bugging, the special prosecutor eventually dropped the charge.

Also, as many Dopers with Philadelphia ties already know, Harry Olivieri has passed away at the age of 90. Harry and older brother Pat, who sold hot dogs at a stand in South Philly, are credited with starting the City of Brotherly Love’s cheesesteak tradition in 1933.

Congratulations to cbawlmer who picks up another 15 points with the unique pick of Jack Warden. You now have 52 points and four dead celebrities.

And nobody picked Mako, Thomas Manton, Robert Mardian, Harry Olivieri, or James West.

Carl Brashear, ‘Men of Honor’ diver, dies at 75

Nobody picked him.

Susan Butcher has Died . She was 51.

Arthur Lee of Love is gone at 61

With the death of Susan Butcher we have some changes in the scoreboard:

uglybeech maintains a comfortable lead with 278 points and six dead celebrities. You will bow down before her, Jor-El. You… and then one day… your heirs!

Zooming up to second place is last year’s champeen Rachm Qoch, who now has 190 points.

amarone enters the Top Ten at a very respectable seventh place with 133 points.

And last but not least Shirley Ujest leaves the Lou Rawls Club in the dust with 77 points.

And nobody picked Arthur Lee.

Congratulations, scorers!

Oh, and I meant to point out that Andrew and Sarah’s kid, Princess Beatrice, turns 18 today. Happy birthday, Bea!

Yay! I’m still in last place with 0!

We’re tied, you and I, anyrose.
