I’d just like to note, for the record, the with the passing of President Ford I have -finally- scored some points on the 2006 list. Sorry to Gerry though.
All he did for me was make me change my alternate for my 2007 list. Real shame, had him as an alternate for years. Not quite as safe as being on my main list, but almost.
Don’t worry tarra, there are several of us doing the mopey faced dance of joy cause we finally, finally scored. RIP President Ford.
A quick Excel calculation tells me he’s beat out Ronald Reagan by 45 days to become the longest-lived president.
You know what’s really creepy? I posted my list for 2007 on the day Gerald Ford died. I had him on my 2006 list, but felt compelled to leave him off the 2007 list. It’s almost like I knew.
No, I haven’t been smoking anything.
Not long now!
I really hope Fidel Castro waits until January 1st to shuffle off this mortal coil.
Not because I plan on having him on my 2007 list, but because if he dies today or tomorrow it will be difficult to figure out where all the alternates go.
I am so going to hell. Some of my acquaintances can’t believe I do this!
Do the people who picked Saddam get credit? He wasn’t under a death sentence at this time last year when he was picked.
The rule just states that if executed it doesn’t count. The timing of the sentence doesn’t matter just the method of death. No points.
I know that rule, which I believe is to prevent a member from picking the next 10 people scheduled to be executed in Texas, or somesuch. Perfectly reasonable.
I just want to suggest that a celebrity not under a death penalty when picked is a whole different kettle of fish. I have no peronal stake in Saddam points, as I don’t even have a list for 2006. It just seems to me a matter of fairness. Just sayin’…
Saddam was sentenced to death before the game started. I believe we even had a ruling way back in this thread somewhere that determined that he wasn’t eligible unless he died in some non-official way.
I’m fine wih 0 for Saddam. I picked him thinking he’d be assasinated first.
He’s still in my body count.
I picked Saddam as well, just because I knew he wasn’t going to be around much longer.
Saddam was sentenced to death less than 2 months ago.
However, I won’t belabor the point by arguing further about points. The people have spoken.
vivalostwages, you also had Peter Boyle on your 2007 list, but it doesn’t seem you have replaced him, and you listed no alternates. So you’re one short for the coming year!
Doh! :smack: Still, he’s been in US custody since before the 2006 game started, and I remember this issue being discussed before. (Could it have been in the 2005 thread?) IIRC, the general consensus was that rule #7 didn’t specify that the sentence had to be imposed before the game began.
I might well lose out on points for Osama because he gets arrested by the Saudis and gets his head chopped off before the sun sets on 2007, but I’m hoping that our boys will blow his ass up first.
Sorry I haven’t updated the scoreboard recently. I haven’t had the computer access that I thought I would have this week. I’ll try to figure out some pointage today and wrap it up as soon as I can.
Nobody gets points for Saddam.
I would like to formally protest the fact that Saddam didn’t kill himself or get himself blown up, like any decent dictator/megalomaniac.
I’d like to dig him up and shoot him just for being so inconsiderate.
I don’t miss the pointage, it’s the lack of adding him to my list of people I picked that died that I miss. Yanno, like a being on honor roll, or something.
You know what’s strange?.. I initially had Saddam’s brother Barzan Ibrahim al-Tikriti, who was mistakenly reported by al-Jazeera as hanging alongside his brother, on my 2006 list, but shuffled him down to “alt” status at the last minute. This was before the death sentence, of course (were they even on trial then?) He was supposed to swing, but inexplicably was given a 2-week reprieve. The point is moot, I guess, since he was only almost on my list, and in the end was only almost executed in 2006. Just an interesting sidenote.
So when do we get the final tally? I know who won  And I know I’m tied for last (I think I should score less than zero for keeping Ariel Sharon alive). It would be nice to see who won all the awards. But it’s an honor just to be nominated.
