The Celebrity Death Pool 2009

Jesus!

Sorry, he was in a previous death pool, he does not qualify for this year.

How would we rule this one?

Well, he died but then came to life again. So I believe that it is valid to choose Jesus again for a second coming, followed by second death. However, as he will be over 2,000 years old, he will not score many points.

His death did not generate a wire service story, therefore Jesus isn’t a celebrity.

Oscar winning composer Maurice Jarre, dead at 84.

I’d say he was never authoritatively declared dead. He may have been unconscious for a period, and then got up. Presumably he died later, but we don’t know when. So, no points.

The bizarre saga of Sulim Yamadayev is over. The Chechen warlord/turncoat, Russian commander who participated in the invasion of Georgia was gunned down in Dubai yesterday.

As posted in another thread Andy Hallet (Lorne on Angel) died and age 33

Brian

Lou Saban, who coached many college and professional football teams in the USA, has died at the age of 87. Saban was the first coach of the American Football League’s Boston Patriots (now the New England Patriots of the NFL), guided the Buffalo Bills to two AFL championships, and then spent some time with the Denver Broncos. He subsequently returned to the Bills during O.J. Simpson’s prime as a running back, and later spent about a year as president of baseball’s New York Yankees.

Oh!
I thought he was older than that

Another surprising public appearance this week. Muhammad Ali hosted the Celebrity Fight Night ceremony.

Andrea Mead Lawrence, who won gold medals in the slalom and giant slalom at the 1952 Winter Olympics, has died at the age of 76. After her competitive skiing career ended, she became known as an environmental activist in California.

16 celebrities have died, representing 1.9% of the total and 1.7% of the votes.

Herman Franks, who managed baseball’s San Francisco Giants to four consecutive second-place finishes in the National League during the mid-1960’s, has died at the age of 95. Franks later managed the Chicago Cubs from 1977 to '79.

Raúl Alfonsín, who served as Argentina’s president from 1983 to '89, has passed away at 82. After his country had been ruled by a succession of dictators and military juntas, the human rights attorney restored some respectability to Argentina’s reputation. However, hyperinflation and overwhelming debt eventually overshadowed Alfonsin’s willingness to place former officials on trial for their participation in the South American nation’s “dirty war” against dissidents.

13th place?!

Curse you Jade Goody! I had you on my list and scratched you off. F’in hell.

Tom Braden CNN correspondent whose book “Eight is Enough” inspired the TV series, dead at 92.

I never realized that the dad in 8 is enough was a political columnist.

Yes, he knew all the bigwigs, and his wife & Ethel Kennedy had a friendly competition going about who having most children. His book is a fun read.

Farah Fawcett circling the drain?

She is one of my picks…
