I’ve still got my ace in the hole, Patrick Swayze. But I suppose most everyone else does too.
My real long shot for the big payout is Amy Winehouse. But even she won’t put me into the lead.
Maybe we should talk about some new rules for next year – like double bonus points for celebs under 30, triple if they don’t die of an already diagnosed and published fatal illness. An incentive for picking a self-destuctive young celeb who will end up wrapped around a tree or a heroin needle.
Just thinkin’ aloud.
Plus the extra points will help offset the grief and shock of the tragedy!
What about Double Points for a Unique ( solo) pick?
Or Extra points if you score two stiffs in the same day ( farrah and MIchael).
Sounds great! I had both Farrah and Michael, and I had a unique pick last year.
Plus, we should ALL get points if one of the standard death pool entrants dies, like Fidel or Ariel Sharon. Then we don’t have to add them to our lists, and might gather some more points with other choices. On we can declare Fidel and Ariel already dead for purposes of the death pool. It would practically be the same as allowing people to submit longer lists.
Shakes fist at amarone…
That is why I said I had a shot, not that it was certain, I had the hunch that one of the top scorers had him. But the Captain did not have Novak so I see that I reached 3rd place at least.
Woohoo…Breaks the top 10 with Novak!
4 deaths for me so far,the 1st being Farrah.
Back in June of this year, Major George Edward Wahlen succumbed to cancer. During WWII he served as a Pharmacist’s Mate attached to the Marines at Iwo Jima. His Medal of Honor Citation as follows:
All in all, an exemplary man.
And fifteen points for me!
Two deaths from the State of Missouri:
Margaret Bush Wilson was the second black woman to ever practice law in the state of Missouri and was National President of the NAACP.
Former Missouri Governor Warren Hearnes was the first Missouri governor to serve two consecutive terms.
Indeed.
Don Hewitt, of *60 Minutes *fame…
Brett Favre is dead to many Packers fans…
Brian
You want 6 0r 7 points for him? Do you want the PAT?
76 out of 181 players have Castro, and only 36 have Sharon. Even Patrick Swayze, who seems to be as close to a gimme as you can get, garnered just over half the nominations at 96.
Actually, I thought Novak was a gimme - he himself described his prognosis as “dire”, yet only 18 people chose him.
With people like Castro and Sharon, not only have they hung around for years, but they are pretty old so you don’t get many points. Neither of them are on the list of any of the players currently in the top four positions. Ariel is worth 19 points, Castro 17. At that level of scoring, even if all your nominees died, you would not win.
You and 66 others.
You are already getting 70+ points - isn’t that enough?
I know - sometimes I can hardly do the admin tasks as I am so torn up.
Yes, but it was a pleasure. Mrs. Plant mentioned that she has never seen me happy when someone died.
As I said about Nixon, I hope someone remembered to drive a stake through his black heart before they screwed the lid down.
I’d say keep the points simple. as they are, although I surely believe that the winner shouldn’t be eligible the next year.
The great German soprano Hildegard Behrens has died suddenly at 72 while teaching a master class in Tokyo. One of the world’s best Isoldes and Brunnhildes ever.
![]()
And I never heard of her! I’m a Kirsten Flagsted and Joan Sutherland fan from Solti, Culshaw and the Vienna Philharmonic.
Her first Brünnhilde came with a complete “Ring” at the Bayreuth Festival in Germany in 1983, the production conducted by Georg Solti.
In 1972 she joined the Deutsche Oper in Düsseldorf. She was discovered there by the powerful conductor Herbert von Karajan,
“Music for me comes out of the dramatic context,” she said in a 1997 interview with Opera News.
A Wagnerian concept.
In 1990, while performing in the “Ring” at the Met, Ms. Behrens sustained a severe injury when a piece of scenery fell on her during the final scene of “Götterdämmerung,” the dramatic climax in which the Hall of the Gibichungs collapses.
Wow!
And I call my self a Wagnerian. How did I miss her?
That’s why I have a policy of excluding anyone 80 or above.
