The Celebrity Death Pool 2009

You are my new bestest friend forever. MAH!

Maybe you should have picked Robert Enke, German Soccer Player who literally threw himself in front of a train. He was 32.

This might qualify as “a celebrity only because of her illness”, but Mallory Codehas had some exposure as a junior golfer winning several junior national golf tournaments and playing on the Junior Solheim Team. She would have been worth a cool 75 points as she was only 25.

Ken Ober will no longer will have his own game show :(. Cite

Or maybe he just became a Canadian citizen…

Wow…just, wow. That really sucks. I really loved Remote Control, and found Ober hillarious.

Ironically, at the time I thought “How cool is it that MTV is expanding out and taking a half-hour to not show videos”…

I feel silly saying this, but I really enjoyed Remote Control too. Ken was tough but fair, and was funny, kept things moving along and genuinely seemed to be having a good time. Fifty-two is too young!

:frowning:

Dennis Cole, who co-starred with Rod Taylor on the short-lived TV series Bearcats!, has died at the age of 69. Besides his acting on numerous programs, Cole was also known for his brief marriage to Charlie’s Angels fixture Jaclyn Smith and the still-unsolved death of his son Joe, who was killed in a robbery in 1991 while he and former Black Flag frontman Henry Rollins were returning to the house they shared.

Bruce King, who served three non-consecutive tewrms as governor of New Mexico, passed away at 85. King, a Democrat, led the Land of Enchantment from 1971 to '74, returned for the 1979-82 stretch, and finally served from '91 to '94.

Ex-Thai prime minister Samak Sundaravej, 74. A unique pick for Critical Mass.

I’m starting to work on my '10 list. Will you be announcing rules changes – if any – soon?

Lazy mod. I started on my '10 list about 30 seconds after I submitted '09…

Really…I already have two names for my 2011 list. They’re sick, but they’re probably not sick enough to go next year.

“Working on my list” means finding all the little scraps of paper on which, over the course of the last 11.5 months, I’ve jotted down the names of people with … health issues … (god, there just is no way to not sound like an awful person if you’re a Death Pooler, is there?) so I can collate them, do addl. research, etc.

Of course, I’ll probably skip all of that and follow my usual policy of picking a bunch of septugenarians pretty much at random and trusting to the Fates. Some year, Ron Popeil and Mitzi Gaynor will go, and I’ll leap ahead, based on the uniqueness of my picks.

(Let’s face it, I’ll never do better than this year, with the Jackson/Fawcett/Swayze trifecta.)

The only change will be “no people famous only for being sick”. See separate discussion thread (no time to link). The 2010 game will open Dec 1.

Washington Wizards Owner Abe Pollin Dies At 85

I just checked my preliminary list, 2 of my choices are already dead and David Hasselhoff is circling the drain…

Hang in there David!

For a couple of months at least…

Anybody got Tiger Woods? Elin seems pretty pissed.

Golf clubs don’t kill people, jealous wives kill people.

FWIW, John Daly was an alternate on my list this year. He is a trainwreck waiting to happen.

I’ve had him on my list for three years. That makes him an immortal.
