The morning of September 11 will be a day that lives in our hearts, souls and minds for the rest of our lives. The members of the Straight Dope Message Board came out and shared information when none other was available.

I have edited the comments and statements down, but hopefully have left the meaning. I don’t care what anyone says, the members of the SDMB have come together to mourn, pray and hope in the darkest of days.

** Johnny L.A. ** A second aircraft – it looked like a 727 – just crashed into the other tower!

** andygirl ** I’m watching the news right now. All they know is pretty basic- one plane crashed into one tower, and then another went into the other one. They hit the top floors. Both have massive holes and at least one has a fire.
** Arden Ranger ** CNN just said the plane was hijacked and crashed into the tower. Didn’t say which one but I’m guessing both.

** Ukulele Ike ** I was on my rooftop in Brooklyn at 9:15. The smoke was thick, and visible holes in the towers. Heavy smoke drifting south as far as the eye could see.
** Sealemon88 ** Oh, my God. The tops of both towers are completely covered with smoke. It looks like two smokestacks. I just heard that bodies are falling off the top floors…

** RalfCoder ** NPR reports that a section of the west side of the Pentagon has completely collapsed. The section is 75-100 feet wide, and apparently goes completely through from the outside to the courtyard inside. It goes from the top completely to the ground.

** Nymysys ** 10,000 people in each tower during regular business hours. 10,000 in each. 20,000 people. Mother of god.
** atarian ** Canary Wharf, the tallest building in the UK has been evacuated, almost certainly just as a precaution.
** LifeOnWry ** American Airlines has confirmed that two of the three planes involved were theirs - flight 11 from Boston to LA and flight 77 from Dulles to LA. 11 is said to be the first one to hit WTC, 77 is the one reported to have hit the Pentagon. No word yet on the third plane.
** Juniper200 ** The elementary school where my mom works is locked down tightly as well. She says parents are calling every 30 seconds to make sure the kids are safe and to see if they’ll be sent home.
** Soda ** They’ve evacuated the Swedish government as well. Just to be on the safe side.

** Paul The Younger ** My sister-in-law is a nurse in Fairfax, VA. All the area hospitals are swamped with injuries from the Pentagon.

** xash ** building 7 in the WTC complex is on fire and could collapse, says CNN. but i guess there’s no risk of losing further lives as i understand the area has been evacuated…
