I hate cleaning the litter box (obvious)
I hate vacuuming because of the noise and I have three levels
All of them.
Some things need to be done with some regularity, no matter how loathsome . . . like washing dishes or cleaning out the litterbox. I mean, there’s only so much a sink or litterbox can hold, right? But other things, like cleaning the bath tub or toilet, can be put off indefinitely. I really have to push myself to do these or they’d ***never ***get done.
In my *How To Be Nursing Student *book, it suggested that once or twice a week, right after you wash and the shower is still running, go over the walls and tub with a Magic Erasure. All done!
I don’t wash the clothes in my house. Not that I can’t stand the task (what’s the big deal about throwing clothes in a machine), but my wife has specific rules for specific pieces of clothing… that’s what makes the task one I really loathe.
I also can’t stand that she washes clothes every… single… day. It’s actually caused a couple of arguments. I finally bought my own hamper and said that I’m now responsible for washing my own clothes, please leave them alone honey, OK? This, too, caused an argument. My points:
- Excessive washing of clothes decreases their shelf-life,
- I don’t want to remember what I wore two, three days earlier. I don’t want to see the shirt I wore on Monday hanging up in the closet on Wednesday morning… now I have to actively think “did I wear this this week?” which is far more thought than I care to give my wardrobe.
Her points:
- She doesn’t have enough clothes to last a week without cleaning, and without my clothes, she’s wasting water.
My rebuttal:
- Buy some more clothes!
I’d vote for ironing as the most boring and horrible chore I ever had to do. I don’t even do it anymore because I can’t bring myself to do it. And I don’t mind doing the dishes, vacuuming, watering plants, dusting, mopping, etc… it all feels great compared to ironing.
I never had to clean an oven but when the time comes, I’ll hire someone to do it. It’s tough work and requires a bit of experience to do it right.
Unloading the dishwasher. It’s totally inexplicable. I enjoy loading the dishwasher - it’s like a puzzle and I’ll get more points when things are in there in the most optimal configuration. But unloading the damn thing? I’d rather eat worms.
Cleaning the toilet. I don’t like having to reach into the bowl, even with gloves and the cleaning wand. I poop in there.
Laundry. Oh, how I hate doing laundry. First you have to gather it all. Then sort it. Then put it in the washer. Then the dryer. Then fold it and put it away. By the time you have accomplished this feat, at least two hours have passed (more when I forget about something in the washer or dryer).
Since there are usually at least four loads to be done by the time I get to it, it is actually at least 5 elapsed hours. And that is every week. It never ends!
That and dusting. We have two cats, two kids and two parents. It just seems so futile. By the next day, it looks almost the same again.
(Luckily, my truly hated jobs, raking and lawn mowing are done for me since we live in a condo townhouse. I pay for it in my dues but it is so worth it to come home to a clean tidy yard.)
Dusting
Weeding/trimming
Folding laundry
Emptying dishwasher
This is me. Why do I not mind, nay, actually enjoy loading the freaking dirty dishes…but can’t stand taking out the newly cleaned and fresh ones and putting them away? I mean, I hate washing dishes by hand because of the icky dirty dishes I have to touch. Why don’t I mind touching them to load the dishwasher? ![]()
Folding Laundry!! I’d rather do a tub full of dishes.
Yardwork.
When I lived in a house, there was a lawn service but I had to clear the snow in the winter.
I prefer my apartments and will be getting a condo down the road. Haven’t owned a shovel, trowel, or anything snow or dirt/grass related in ten years and plan to keep it that way.
More frequently than I would like, our cats decide to pee off the edge of the litter pans instead of into them. Meaning that when I go to clean them the pans are sitting in a puddle of urine which I have to clean up as well as the pans themselves. The bats are driving me cats!
Cleaning the cat box is pretty bad, but at least it’s a relatively quick job.
Cleaning the bathroom is the one I hate. I’ve become a fan of those thick gel cleansers that you let sit and then gently scrub off.
I’ll fold your laundry if you come wash my dishes.
You need an (inexpensive) leather couch. Ikea has them.
My cats do that, but not with pee, thank god. I can handle cleaning poop off the floor–we just put newspaper down, and then replace any that’s been soiled–but if my cats started peeing on the floor, I think I’d cry.
That reminds me, the boxes are long overdue for a wash. I scoop them every day, but the emptying/washing gets put off for months. Usually “it’s winter” is enough to persuade me that it’s not a worthwhile task, but now that it’s nice outside, I have no excuse. Maybe I’ll do that this afternoon. I think I’ll completely replace all the newspaper while I’m at it.
definitely laundry because it’s like 10 chores in 1. lugging the clothes to the washer/dryer, loading the washer, transferring the clothes to the dryer, emptying the dryer and lugging it back to your room, folding, possibly ironing, putting it away… i’m exhausted just thinking about it. individually it’s not bad, but you can’t skip a single step, and compounded? it’s like being eaten alive by fireants - every single week.
Cleaning dog and cat pee.
The dog breaks housetraining all the time because she’s 15 and on a bunch of meds that make her drink & pee a lot. She got up twice last night, at about 3 a.m. and 5 a.m. respectively, just to pee on my bedroom floor.
I must mop my floors 3-4 times a day. Pretty much every time I walk in the door, I have to spot-mop some place. And a few hours later, old dog has been wandering around and I’ve got to mop again. Yes, I take her out every two hours when I’m home. She still pees.
I’m going to miss this dog, but I am not going to miss the pee cleaning.
All of them really but I just dropped in to say I solved oven cleaning by buying one of those 1300 watt circular glass ovens. I have never used my stove oven since.
