The cleaning "dance" poll

I do prefer to sing along while i clean , as it makes the work far less tedious. I’ll play some music while i cook. I have done severl loads of towels and blankets and ran the dishwaher twice.
Although someone else will have to empty the second go round, because i also take the trash.

I mostly sing but so loud and passionately my body gets into it, too, so it’s kind of dancing. I usually listen (loudly) to:

a tape I have of mixed rock favorites (Days of the New, Guns N Roses, Moby, Prince (Purple Rain only) other stuff);

Strauss, Mozart, or Yo Yo Ma Great Cello Concertos;

Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass, my latest fave; or

mixed opera songs cds.

Depends on my mood and what I’m doing. And if the dog’s in the house, because he also likes to sing along with the opera, but he doesn’t sing so good.

When I make lasagne I must sing along with loud Pavarotti.

Luckily I have really tolerant neighbors.

When I’m cleaning, it’s as if I’m living in the House of Overplayed Soft Rock – I listen to Neil Diamond, Carole King, Simon&Garfunkel, Helen Reddy, Abba, etc etc. I like it because it’s easy to sing along with, even when you have to belt out the lyrics to Sweet Caroline over the roar of the vacuum cleaner.

I think this is all because my mom used to listen to Tapestry when she cleaned the house. A family curse, in other words.

It’s also good for ensuring that Mr. Del suddenly finds the time to make that trip to the hardware store he’s been putting off, and thus is OUT OF MY WAY when I’m on the cleaning binge.
