The Cleveland Browns march to 0-16 thread

Except for the brown paper variety.

Yeah, he really has.

It remains to be seen whether Braylon actually does anything in New York. He might be Randy Moss… or he might not. Everyone seems to be taking it as a foregone conclusion that he’ll return to his 2007 form, but to be honest I see that as the less likely scenario.

oops

Even if he does play well he won’t find as much open field as he did in 2007 without Winslow drawing underneath coverage and with the team in max protect to help Sanchez. I don’t think his overall numbers will reach that level but I could see him catching a lot of TDs. He’s strong and athletic enough to be a real challenge for defences as the field shrinks.

Braylon seems like the kind of player that you sometimes find in baseball in the infield. Makes some spectacular plays that make your jaw drop, but lets too many of the routine balls go between his legs to be considered reliable.

That, and Edwards is a headcase.

Browns-related rant.

Browns fans, TV announcers, NFL writers all seem to be under the impression that Jerome Harrison is a speedy scatback like Leon Washington or Darren Sproles. There is not, nor has there ever been, any evidence to support this - and yet people keep parroting this idea to each other for some reason.

He got 29 carries last week, almost exclusively between the tackles running. He didn’t have any big breakaway runs - it was a solid day gaining 4-6 yards at a time in traffic. The announcers talked about how he’s a player that they try to get on the edge, but that’s not actually the case. He’s fast enough, but not that fast - much slower than actual scatbacks. He’s 5’9 210-215 pounds, which is the size plenty of full featured starters are. Everyone claims he “can’t carry the load” but he has no real injury history and he ran for 1900 yards in his last year of college.

His best attributes are his vision, short area quickness, and change of direction ability. He doesn’t have great straight line speed. He’s best (relative to average) in traffic, dissapearing into a pile and coming out the other end.

His running style is nothing at all like a scatback. His build is nothing like a scatback. His strengths and weaknesses are not those of a scatback. He is an every down well rounded runner. And yet no one in the fucking world but me apparently can see that he’s not Leon Washington/Darren Sproles. He’s much closer to Priest Holmes or Tiki Barber in style and stature.

He’s listed at 205 pounds by the Browns.

He’s been listed at 205 since he was drafted, but he’s added a bit of muscle since then. I’ve seen it range from 205 (official page) to 218 (wikipedia page, source unknown). An offseason news report I read said he showed up a bit under 215.

Doesn’t really matter, either way - runners shouldn’t be pigeonholed into running style based on weight, especially when everything you’ve ever seen them do contradicts that assumption.

Maurice Jones Drew.

For the love of Christ.

Who wants to start the *Cleveland Browns March to 1-15 *thread?

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOo!!!

To be fair, the Browns didn’t so much win the game as the Bills lost it. Whatever. I’ll take it.

Anytime TO loses is a good day!

I’m shocked, shocked I tell you that the mere fact that T.O. became a Buffalo Bill hasn’t propelled the Bills to being a massive contender for the postseason!!!

You guys think 0-16 is easy? Now you can appreciate the degree of suckatude the Lions had to maintain to get there. It takes reverse consistency. It takes turnovers at the right time. It is not simple.
A bad season or 2 is not sufficient for 0-16. It takes bad drafting. bad management and bad play to achieve the demoralization a task like that requires.

Those Lions sure made it look easy.

The Buccaneers are mad, and we’re coming to get our record back. Nobody had ever approached the dizzying [del]heights[/del] lows of a winless season before we did it.

You guys did it with expansion and a brand spankin new college coach. That was easy. We took a storied franchise that has been around for a long time and accomplished the feat. You have to appreciate how hard that is to do.

That whole thing was some pathetic.
