The format: 170ish lines of unrhymed, unmetered verse, concluding with an equally unrhymed couplet.

Me, too. This has significantly curtailed my posting in GD for a while now.
If there one unforgivable logical error in GD, it’s painting with a broad brush, “All Muslims hate America” and other such rot. Yet it happens all the time. One poster put it quite well.

This doesn’t just happen with respect to Islam, either. The attitude crops up in all kinds of discussions. More often than not, the entire discussion gets derailed in an effort to address this attitude. Fighting ignorance is fine but having to fight the same ignorance over and over and over gets old.
So while blowing up in GD is unacceptable, the urge to do so is understandable. There has to be some way to address this. Perhaps we can put a “Don’t paint with a broad brush” sticky in GD or something.
Oh, and Collounsbury, tell your Christian Arab friend to start posting here!

I rarely saw your posts, as I’ve always felt that GD is the den of maniacs (I mean that in the best possible sense of the term!). I tend to stick to IMHO where, though there is a great deal of overlap in thread subjects, people in IMHO generally realize they are stating an opinion rather than delivering stone tablets from God for the rest of us to marvel at.
Good luck! I think many of us had a small taste of ehat you’ve gone through during the Winter of Our Lost Content.
