The connection was refused when attempting to contact home.netscape.com

what’s this supposed to mean, and how can i fix it?

Who said it where in what situation on what type of machine?

If it’s still happening, you might try downloading another browser (like Mozilla or Opera) and see if the problem still happens.

Some more background, please. Are you on a dialup or broadband connection? After it happens, can you go anywhere else or do you have no connection to the 'net?

The reason it says this is because it can’t figure out how to load the page. Either you aren’t online, or that page is down (not as likely in this case). What might be happening is the browser is “giving up” trying to look for the website before your dialler has finished making the connection. But that’s just a WAG based on limited info.

You’re better off setting your browser’s homepage to a very simple page like Google.com so you don’t have to download all that cruft every time you connect.

sorry, i kinda forgot to post details. it’s netscape v6.2 and i have AOL braodband now, but i think it was doing it when i used dialup too. according to this thread on another message board, the problem can be fixed by either renaming the file Xactivation.dll or deleting it. for one, i don’t know what i’m supposed to rename it. and i’m kinda afraid to go around just deleting files if i don’t know exactly what they are.

Xactivation.bak would be a good choice.

nope, didn’t work.

oops, i forgot to paste the actual quote.

well, you know what you said.
