Meh. It’s reality TV, which I don’t like, but boxing, which I do.
My big problem is that the fight at the end was so heavily edited. A five round fight works out to 17 minutes. In a 90 minute broadcast, you’d think they could find time to show the whole fight.
I saw the second episode (I think) tonight on CNBC. I liked it. It’s nice to get to know these guys and see them with their families. It would be nice to see an unedited fight, though, but I understand that it’s tough to put a full 5 round fight in a 1hr TV show and leave space for the show itself.
I’m not since I don’t like boxing or reality TV, but they don’t by any chance use " Could’ve Been A Contender" by Aerovox as their theme song, do they? Because it would be neat if they did.
I watched the most recent episode and liked the background stories being played up. The ‘competitions’ are mostly silly, however. I was impressed with the winning team’s fighter calling out what most considered the toughest competitor on the other team. It showed ambition and guts, and the win showed he has the heart to take on all comers.
Re: editing the fights. This show is supposed to attract all sorts, not just boxing fans. It probably wouldn’t survive if it was just about boxing matches. Even my wife was willing to admit it was watchable, and she abhors the violence of the sport.
