So is ckdexthavn gonna volunteer, or do we have to drag him here?

I got my nick by using my totem animal (the Squirrel which I bastardized so it would fit on MIRC) and the name of the gay subculture group where I tend to fit in (i.e. cub). On this note, Until recently I assumed Sunbear and Papabear were gay. I know better now. The bear movement is one of the largest gay submovements, fyi, and almost anytime you see bear, cub, otter, Daddy, or Papa (especially for older men) then more than likely that person is gay.
Have a great day.

No huge story here - Falcon’s my nick on IRC. It’s also my spirit animal, so that’s why I chose it. It also means I don’t get hit on when I’m on IRC, thank God…
Quadell, CKD already did explain his name – just in a different thread at a much earlier time and in a different area altogether.

Hmmm…no offense, but I sense an imminent change in a couple of SDMB aliases.
the beginning of my first e-mail address ten years ago. very lame, but it’s stuck with me…what can I say, I’m a man, we don’t like change.

So if I picked a handle of BearOtterCubDaddy, it would be roughly equivalent to ILikeToDateMen? Well, I learn something every day.

First they take a perfectly good synonym for “happy” and now…
I would have been a lot happier not knowing that little bit of info, Sqrl!
Bear, cub and otter “movements”?? I thought I was about as gay savvy as a straight fellow could be but what the hell are you talking about?
Otters?

“My hovercraft is full of eels.”
I always thought those were ranks in the Cub Scouts… wait a minute…
“I guess it is possible for one person to make a difference, although most of the time they probably shouldn’t.”
My ex girlfriend’s (and my) best friend used to call me mangeorge. If I asked her why, they would both go into a giggle-fit. I never got a straight answer. I still love them anyway.
If you’re out there, Ella & Betty, please tell me now.
Peace,
mangeorge

Mangeorge - about what year did they start calling you mangeorge?
About 1982 or so, as I recall.

Now I know how that happens
Sorry to but in here, with that exciting question unanswered, but:
I don’t see any changes coming up.However, if any of you folks should decide to change your name or become multiple personalities, it takes some doing to handle the “preferences” set for your name.
I don’t actually know how you would drop out (not “dismember”, I would think)under the original name. I wonder how many names they will tolerate?
Mine’s easy. I have five cats. My favorite is named Popoki, “cat” in Hawaiian. Where I don’t live but really, really, want to.
Okay, really lame but:
Greek mythology is a really popular way to choose a name on AOL (as most of you probably know), and so the more common names go fast. Cassandra was (I think) a Trojan princess or something like that. She had the gift of prophesy and foresaw the downfall of Troy. *But, she was cursed so that no one would ever believe her prophesies, so she got to watch her beloved city burn, and couldn’t do anything about it. How sad. Anyway, I like to be a little different (and Cassandra was already taken), so I change it to Cessandra (which is pronounced with a soft C and a snooty sounding a: Suh-son-dra).

Heres the story on my nick name:
On IRC, i used to go by the name of Adobo (Name of a Filipine dish, and powdered sauce mix you find in latin stores, made by "Goya :)). I used it because it was original, and memorable. On one of the channels i frequent on EFNet, the people there started calling me doob (evidently it stems from a typo made during a chat session :)). Then a few months later a girl there started calling me “Doobie”. That went on for a while, and then i saw the word “dubious” on some web page while i was chatting, and it struck me to change my nick to “Doobieous”. So, now i go by the nickname “Doobieous” (Even my friends IRL started calling me that since we were all bored and thinking of nick names to call eachother. And yes, i still visit EFNet for chats LOL.
