The Crypt of SDMB Clichés

Dear God! For real? No shit?!?

The horror. The horror.

More annoyances:

“Now, IANABFL (I Am Not A Bottom-Feeding Lawyer) but…”

-Hey, if you’re gonna turn it into an acronym and spell it out, you’ve actually made MORE keystrokes, not fewer. Besides, no matter what I think of lawyers, writing IANAL just doesn’t seem right somehow- it seems more like the gag vanity license plate of a gay character in a Zucker/Abrams/Zucker movie.

As for excessive typing in the interests of saving time… what the hell’s up with typing “2K+3”? That’s four characters, but with a shift function so that it actually takes more keystrokes than just typing “2003”. I suppose 2K3 is a mere single character shorter, but hey, you’re typically making a half-paragraph post- is one extra character gonna save that much time?

Yeah, you think so, but if you ever meet anyone else who believes that singing along with the car radio to “Fly Away” by Lenny Kravitz- just this song, ftr- is going to make their car break down, send them my way. I forgot and sang about 3 words of it on Wednesday, so I expect a breakdown in retaliation in the near future. Or maybe the fact that I didn’t get as far as “fly away” saved me. I don’t know.

I’m sure we all recall hundreds of times that people spew [ul]
[li]Coffee[/li][li]Diet Coke[/li][li]Water[/li][li]other liquid substance[/li][/ul]

all over their

[ul]
[li]monitor[/li][li]keyboard[/li][li]pet[/li][li]neighbor[/li][/ul]

after reading a humorous post…

I agree it’s way overused - so much so by some people that I really pray that they never sneeze and fart at the same time. Who knows what hideous inhuman things might happen, and just how long it might take to clean up afterwards?

Um… perhaps I may be a bit out of the loop on pop culture these days… but can someone explain to me just what “The Comic Book Guy” is and where he’s from? Thanks.

(and if you say, “he’s a guy that sells comic books… DUH!”… I will rip yer heart out and have it for breakfast  )

F_X

he’s a guy that sells comic books… DUH!

Ow! Ow! give it back!

OK, for real. He’s the guy that, uh, sells comic books on The Simpsons.

Google is your friend! Ha! No one mentioned that one yet!

The Comic Book Guy File

He’s an ultra-uber-geeky guy from the Simpsons, who talks in an exaggerted, abbreviated style, not too unlike that of Captain James T. Kirk.

I can’t stand “Asshat”.

It looks to me like something the, ahem, “older” people on SDMB say to sound “young and hip” when it fact it just pegs them as the “aging hipster doofus” they are. I mean really, it has zero value as invective. Then maybe the old people think its as racy as “shmuck” or something. I mean honestly, the people who use “Asshat” the most around here are the housewives, Dilbert Cubicle Warriors and lonely shutins.

I will now duck and run.

IMHO, FWIW.

The Hamburgaler and his many incarnations. My god, it may have been funny ONCE, but now he’s not even bothering to create quasi-original posts to go along with his post dashing.

In defense of “fuckwit”, don’t know if it’s different over the other side of the pond, but this is just a regular old insult in the UK, and therefore doesn’t deserve to be callled a cliché.

My additions of cliches that annoy me:

  • drive-by postings, ended with “carry on.” (Yes, I did notice there is one in this thread.)
  • the deluge of acronymic (?) disclaimers following any OP asking for medical (or legal, other professional) advice - IANAL, IANAD etc. etc. - yes, I know why people do it, but it just annoys me to be reminded of the paranoid, litiginous society we live in. Can’t the default be, unless you say otherwise, it is assumed you are not a professional in the field?
  • {{{{{Cyber hugs}}}}}
  • the letter “e”

I don’t dare use a “tongue-in-cheek” smiley for that last one, in a thread like this.

Dooku , that was hilarious!!

My vote’s for obvious anagram handles (usernames)

Underpants.

Funny post!

Hey, it’s not Standard Operating Procedure to be a FOE. We’re all friends here.

Also we all know nerds can’t punt. Ball games rot minds.

…I hope you can keep from storming off.

It is common amongst the young to regard thier condition, which is comprised primarily of the twin components, ignorance and inexperience, as something so inherently desireable and good that it simply must be envied by those no longer burdened with youth.

I would take the time to thrash this insolent puppy, if it weren’t time for my nap.
