Pinella took out Z a full inning too early, then let him bat with the bases loaded instead of letting Ward PH for him.
Marmol looked terrible even without the 2 run shot he gave up last night.
They left a million runners in scoring position with less than 2 outs last night.
Basically the whole top of the order is tanking at the plate.
What are these guys doing? They are down 6-2 with 1 out and a runner on third ready to make that 7-2.
If this is how they were going to play in the post season I would rather they just let the Brewers take a shot because I’m losing sleeep (literally) because of these late games but am getting no satisfaction from it.
I agree 100% with you cubsfan. Having to stay up to watch them lose is killing me. I realize the team is young and nervous, but if the D-backs can keep it together we ought be able to as well. Most of the sucky pitching looks like our guys are just not ready for the pressure of post season play
I couldn’t beleive how horrible Marmol looked last night on his first few pitches. He was VERY wild.
I appreciate Soriano when he has his shit together, but I’ve always hated his attitude. He needs to lose that cocky swagger and stop trying to put it out every at bat and just go for some base hits.
I don’t know if the Cubs qualify as young. Soto obviously is, and Theriot is pretty young but the rest are pretty much veterans.
This game is pretty much over now. 7-2 and it’s only the bottom of the 5th. I’m probably going to hit the sack and look at the score tomorrow. I’m not going to stay up for this crap.
My sympathies. The Cubs were the NL team I was rooting for and they went down fast. My Yanks may follow them out tomorrow. Like the Cubs, bad manager decisions will haunt the fans.
Had nothing to do with bad manager decisions. When you strand 54 runners in 3 games and 28 of them are stranded by your best 3 hitters and you average 2 runs a game while hitting .194 as a team with an OPS of .562 it’s bullshit to pin anything on the manager.
Pulling Zambrano in game one was about the dumbest thing I ever saw Lou do. His reason for doing it was dumber. Yes, the batters failed to hit. Just like the Yankee hitters are failing to hit. However, bad manager decisions can still cost you a game. You cannot afford to lose 1 game in a 5 game playoff to dumb in game decisions. The hitters are failing, but that happens often in the post-season.
I still think it comes down to batting. Yes, bad decisions can be made in pitcher rotation. But lets face it, the Cubs cannot hit for shit when it counts. All of these big headed twits have too much leeway in their hitting, and they’re all swinging for home runs. They need to learn how to hit for runs, which includes line drives to right and left field, consistantly. Get men on base, and do it again. Fuck home run hitting for the Cubs, they fail miserably when its needed most and strike out much too often. Or when they do get one in the air, it’s an easy out pop fly. Line drives motherfuckers, learn it. See the gap between second and first, put the ball there! This is what you get paid to do! You made some awesome suicide sqeezes in the early season, where were they this time? And always, always run to first as hard as you can. Stop jogging like its a marathon and get your ass to first as quick as possible. Steal 2nd, and then steal 3rd. What are you waiting for?
Nah. I didn’t like the fact he pulled Zambrano, but I can see his reasoning for it. I actually don’t second guess Lou on that one. Bad managerial decisions had nothing to do with the Cubs losing. Nothing. The Cubs just kept stranding runner after @#&$*! runner.
I agree with this whole-heartedly. They’ve stranding runners on base all year, hitting into double plays so often it seems like they are running a double-play workshop for the opposing defenses. This just wasn’t their year.
Mets fan. The teams I was hoping to go far were the Cubs (because the fans deserve something and I love Cliff Floyd) and the Phillies (because they kicked our asses). I don’t have any problems with the Rockies or Diamondbacks, they’re just kind of rootingly neutral to me. I seem to recall something about the Rockies positioning themselves as Jesus’ Favorite Team a few years ago, not sure if they still feel that way. If they do, I will have to root for the Snakes as I am Satan’s unhappy little catspaw.
Since the three-tier system, has the whole first round ever been four sweeps?
You might as well be talking about my Angels over in the AL… What the hell happened? Why couldn’t we have faced the Yankees in a 5 game series instead of Boston?
Crap.
Sure, we MIGHT win the next three games… [Madonna] and monkeys MIGHT fly out of my butt![/Madonna]
