It’s a bit more complicated than that. As we say in the Church of the SubGenius: “The difference between Hell and Heaven is which end of the pitchfork you’re on.”

Everything written regarding Hell in all bibles, from the Zoroastrian up through Dante to Chick Comics, is literally true (except the name of the author). Pink Heaven (frequently misidentified as Christian Heaven or Islamic Paradise) is nothing but a more sophisticated Hell, with air conditioning. In many ways, it is far worse. At least in Hell, you know where you stand. The sheep in Heaven can’t even guess how utterly doomed they truly are.

“Heaven” is only the second rung up the Beforelife ladder, and, like Hell, is reserved for believers. It consists of an absence not only of pain, but also of pleasure.

Actually the “truth” came to me through 7+ years of Sunday school and much of my adult life studying Christianity, and I listened to it very hard, but since God, Allah, or evolution has gifted me with a analytical brain I came to the inescapable conclusion that it was total BS. So in the end if it is is my destiny to engage in eternal carnal knowledge of a gigantic nocturnal bird of prey, than it will be mostly god’s fault for 1) creating a universe appears incompatible with the bible being true 2) giving me a logical mind that clearly recognizes this and yet 3) eternally punishing me for reaching the obvious conclusion. Not the sort of god I want to go around worshiping. I think I’d rather go ahead and worship the giant Owl. After all maybe those who don’t worship the owl spend eternity, getting violated by this guy.

It I had been under the impression that Revelation purported to be a vision of events yet to occur, and the Paradise Lost scenario was supposed to have taken place in the distant past; that is, before even the Fall from Eden. It seems that Milton’s narrative is still extra-Biblical.
