The current second Trump administration: a compendium of horrors

So, not the worst of the worst? I hope Lindsay Williams won’t be fired for admitting it.

Maybe I just wrongly politicized the tragedy. Very sad.

Not now a horror, but will be if Trump can have Obama arrested for it:

Trump accuses Obama of revealing classified information on aliens

But Trump just couldn’t handle Obama getting so much attention for saying that, so he had to one-up him and posted this last night on Truth Social.

Re last post, Trump promised to do it if re-elected, but, so far, alien info release is a broken promise:

Donald Trump claims he would release UFO footage, Epstein files and more if elected

The US will return to somewhat more normal behavior after Trump. Years pass and the academics will have to make documentaries with interviews from this era. Otherwise future college students will not believe the size (30-40 million) of hard core Trump supporters. Trump was able to express what they thought, but throwing in phrases that were code, like DEI. The reader of that future text book on politics (political history has little shelf space in bookstore, only ethnic and minority writers hava a section) will lose interest in 2 pages. You have to put in some terrible things that can be proven. Otherwise it all gets lumped as conspiracy. But somehere in 2026-2030 we will get a good many TV specials trying to explain it all. Even in documentary, Trump will be more easily explained with media, as a media dependent “leader.” He is nothing without his press conferences, which will start to lose meaning as the months drag on and on. I think soon we get taped Trump, not live.

Trump is a symptom, not the disease. More likely the US will complete the transition to fascism and the history books will be re-written to fit the dogma of the new order. Trump will either be erased, or the version in the official history will have essentially no resistance to the reality.

There is no reason to believe the independent voters voted on any particular MAGA aspects. Trump has never won an election against a man. The country was not ready for a woman president.

They were willing to vote for someone like Trump, which is more than enough to tell me what kind of horrible people they are. And, Trump has already done tremendous damage anyway. We aren’t ever going back to what used to be “normal”, even in a best case scenario.

One hardly knows where to post this stuff anymore…but this one made me nuts!

A U.S. veteran adopted an orphan from Iran. Decades later, ICE is trying to deport her

Adopted daughter of a U.S. veteran faces deportation : NPR

Adopted from Iran at age two, she takes great pride in her quintessential American upbringing.

The woman was raised on a small farm in the Midwest. She attended church every Sunday. And she loved listening to her late father’s stories from when he was in the Air Force during World War II.

But in the eyes of the U.S. government, the woman, who’s now in her 50s and lives in California, is not American. Instead, she’s an immigrant who overstayed her visa since she was a toddler and therefore, subject to deportation. She spoke to NPR on condition of anonymity because she fears speaking publicly will complicate her immigration case.

Most international adoptees receive automatic citizenship thanks to the 2000 Child Citizenship Act. But the law excludes those who were already adults when the legislation passed or adoptees who entered the U.S. on the wrong type of visa, which is what happened to the California woman.

Earlier this month, she received a letter from the Department of Homeland Security saying removal proceedings have begun. The woman, who has no criminal record, has no idea what prompted the letter.

What the ever-loving fuck??

“The sheer possibility of the daughter of an American WWII hero being sent overseas, through no fault of her own, epitomizes a broken system,” her attorney Emily Howe said in a statement.

My bold.

Oh, I get it ( :right_arrow: sarcasm alert! :left_arrow: ): it IS obviously her fault for being born in Iran! Case closed! Ship her out!

Hell, a huge part of what is perceived as a failure of the Biden years is that their winning platform was “return to normality” as if the prior normality had not been exactly what enabled the rise of MAGA, so they not act with a sense of urgency to smash the threat.

And of course a lot of MAGA itself is built on the fallacy that the propagandistic mythology of the “good old days” was somehow a default rest-state “normality” that only went away because of aberrant liberals subverting it.

I refuse to accept this. It’s clear that misogyny is a factor in electing Trump, but “ready”?

That is all women MAGA voters believe. They want to be ruled by a man.

What is this, the Counter-Earth?

Then ‘the country’ deserves what it gets, good and hard. Three more years of this shit ya fuckin’ misogynists – I hope you’re happy.

Pentagon sets Friday deadline for Anthropic to abandon ethics rules for AI — or else

Second one’s a definite horror.

As for the mass surveillance, I’m just wondering how that will work. Will they maybe ask Anthropic to identify the real world names of SDMB posters critical of Trump?

As part of the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown, they’re considering forcing banks to verify their clients’ immigration status.

Of course, the banking industry is not happy about that, especially if they have to do it for all current members, too, as has been suggested.

Bold of you to think the U.S. government - or any other government - can’t already do that. Our anonymity has always been pro forma.

Governments have been able to learn whatever they want about anyone for years. They don’t need AI to do it.

Also, why doesn’t the Pentagon have its own AI? Why is it subcontracting? It’s kind of sad, if you think about it. I’d expect the all-powerful U.S. Department of War to have massive hidden underground data centers under its complete control.

AI makes it easier, since they can sort thoguh the flood of information faster. It’s also “better” in that it’s unreliable and easy to bias, so they can train it to make errors in the direction they prefer. Bad for actual security, but a useful trait in an excuse for persecution.
