The current second Trump administration: a compendium of horrors

But a very politically important rounding error.

My point was just to question the earlier claim that “tariffs and aid cuts always skip Israel.”

Maybe when Trump gets to tariffing big Israeli exports such as pharmaceuticals and integrated circuits, he will exempt Israel (as he should exempt any nation with a U.S. free trade agreement). We will see.

P.S. Trump shouldn’t increase tariffs even for nations without an agreement, but that’s another thread.

$15M is absolutely nothing. Why would they retaliate over nothing? And why would they give a shit about an exemption for such a nothingberder? My small town has companies that have way more exports and imports than $15M and it is a town, not a country.

OldOlds said Israel is “always” skipped. Maybe it is usually skipped — I challenged the always. Israel did get a free trade agreement. It remains to be seen if Trump will follow it on the bigger exports.

As to why Israeli diplomats are trying to reverse the new small tariff, that’s their job. If they don’t have a higher value issue at the moment, they’ll go with the one they have.

I suppose K Street business lobbyists are the same way with their clients. If they can’t help an industry with a big issue, they’ll go after a little one.

Again, $15M is NOTHING. According to a quick search, US imported $22B from Israel. As @penultima_thule said, this is nothing. They might not have been skipped here, but it doesn’t matter. It is NOTHING.

Is there any other tariff hitting Israel beyond this absolute nothing?

Re last post, do you mean, tariffs, allowed under the free trade agreement, on Israeli imports to the U.S., that pre-date Trump 47?

This would be off topic and is not important enough to open a new thread.

I agree $15M of Israeli tariffed imports is not important and we should skip this.

It has a reputation for being cursed, so IMO that would be totally appropriate.

Psst. ABC. That 15 million you paid last fall meant nothing. What will appeasement cost you this time?

“Nice media empire you’ve got there. Be a shame if anything happened to it.”

Everyone mentions the Museum of African American History, but I also wonder about the National Museum of the American Indian and what it has to say about the history of indigenous people and their relationship with the US Government.

“I’m Ron DeSantis and I approved this message.”

Prediction: By 2027, the Museum of African American History has become The Smithsonian Museum of the American South, brought to you by Coca-Cola. Admission $24.99. The is still a large section on Black history, but it’s mostly about the moments when white people did something nice for them, and sports and entertainment.

It’s bad enough that he’s trampling the Constitution; but somehow, when he pokes his stubby fingers into art, history, science and culture it really pisses me off.

It will be turned into a big display about how the Navajo tribe welcomed the Pilgrims at the First Thanksgiving.

Yes, I said “Navajo”.

It’s because you’ve seen his apartment, and what he thinks is “tasteful”.

His forays into the art, culture and history have me very depressed. I go to Washington DC a couple times a year and hate to see him ruining things.

Finally some real Injun history in that museum of ‘’‘history’‘’!

I see what you did there.
