The current second Trump administration: a compendium of horrors

Yeah, this brings to mind the basic things we’ve all supposed to have learned in our civics lessons (which I very much doubt that Trump knows or could ever recite).

Which is about the roles of the three branches of government. The enactment of laws is supposed to be the purview of Congress. The judicial system interprets the laws, and the sole power of the executive branch is supposed to be to carry out the laws duly enacted by Congress and as interpreted by the courts.

What there is instead is an unhinged lunatic running around like the authoritarian tyrant that he is doing whatever the hell he wants, legal or not. The tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act are plainly illegal and usurp the powers of Congress. The illegal deportation of immigrants is a flagrant violation of their rights and, most recently, criminal contempt of a court order.

Trump doesn’t care. All norms, all legal and Constitutional safeguards, have fallen away. It’s truly frightening what’s happened to America, and what it portends for the rest of the world. It’s far, far worse than I could have ever imagined.

And Congress isn’t doing a goddamn thing about it. People like Senator Murkowski are supposed to be putting a stop to this. Didn’t all of them take an oath to “preserve protect and defend the Constitution”?

So did the Orange Tyrant when he was sworn in. But he’s been known to lie.

Yeah, he’s a definitely a lost cause. I keep hoping some Republican senators will remember their oath. I still believe in Santa Claus and the tooth fairy, too. And the Easter Bunny is going to bring me some candy on Sunday even though I’m Jewish.

He didn’t have his hand on the Bible when he was sworn in, so it doesn’t count. Like crossing your fingers behind your back when you make a promise.

He knew if he put his hand on the Bible, it would burst into flames. That’s what Satan assured him when Trump sold him his soul back in his prep school days. Hey, Satan is holding up his end of the bargain, so Trump had better abide by the terms of the agreement. :smiling_face_with_horns:

In other news today ( Ho-hum):

Trump calls for Fed Chair Jerome Powell’s ‘termination’ in blistering attack

Trump calls for Fed Chair Jerome Powell's 'termination' : NPR

In a social media post, Trump complained that Powell is “always TOO LATE AND WRONG,” and he insisted the Fed chairman’s “termination cannot come fast enough!”

The president was evidently frustrated that the European Central Bank was preparing to lower interest rates for the seventh time, while the Federal Reserve is in a holding pattern. Of course, European leaders have not imposed triple-digit tariffs which threaten to rekindle inflation.

Trump’s post came a day after Powell warned that the tariffs from the Trump administration are likely to cause both higher prices and slower economic growth.

But he’s [Powell] also been adamant that he intends to serve out the remainder of his term, which runs through May of next year.

So I guess trump will appoint his successor when the time comes? Any FOXNews staffers looking for work? Only those who flunked math in high school need apply.

Okay, the notion of “King Donald” is horrific, but I’ve got to give it up: That shitty-ass signature of his does make a pretty sweet crown…

Things will be great when a Trump toady controls interest rates. I mean, great again.
What’s the worst that could happen?
Great. It’s gonna be great.

Would that it was a crown of thorns – one of first the steps in a ceremony held some 2,000 years ago.

Well, tomorrow would be the right day for it.

Well, don’t forget that his ability to do almost anything he wants is really, really boring.

Another atrocity.

President Trump on Thursday said he was allowing commercial fishing in one of the world’s largest ocean reserves, introducing industrial operations for the first time in more than a decade to a vast area of the Pacific dotted with coral atolls and populated by endangered sea turtles and whales.

Mr. Trump issued an executive order opening up the Pacific Islands Heritage Marine National Monument, which lies some 750 miles west of Hawaii. President George W. Bush established the monument in 2009 and President Barack Obama expanded it in 2014 to its current area of nearly 500,000 square miles.

A second executive order directed the Commerce Department to loosen regulations that “overly burden America’s commercial fishing, aquaculture, and fish processing industries.” It also asks the Interior Department to conduct a review of all marine monuments and issue recommendations about any that should be opened to commercial fishing.

The one good thing Duh-bya did, and Trump f__ks it up.

He does like undoing what other Presidents have done.

And of course this particular action, intended to kill off as many species as possible, is all part of the Cruelty is the Point program. Being as destructive as possible wins him points with MAGA, who equate devastation with Power.

That is great! This one (tomorrow), connected with the same #50501 movement, is the NO KINGS theme. Non-admirers of Dear Leaders in general should have some great signs!

No protests for us tomorrow. SWMBO says, ‘It’s Easter. It’s time for family.’ (‘Family’ being the two of us, the cats, and a spiral-cut ham.)

Well, since my health (and finances) keep me from going out, I’m not in a position to make any judgments one way or the other. But I do hope the numbers are impressive.

I wrote this in another thread but it really fits best here:

LSLGuy’s last post reminded me of this:

Has Trump cancelled Christmas? China’s decorations makers report no US orders

And:

145% tariffs on China are clobbering the toy industry

Perhaps Trump will convince a lot of adults that things aren’t so bad by faking the inflation and unemployment statistics. But you can’t fake a six year old into thinking that fruitcake is a good Christmas gift.

Seriously — this could be what finally tanks Trump’s polling numbers, even among Republicans.

Sorry for the link to X but I had to confirm this was a real thing.
