The current second Trump administration: a compendium of horrors

And carefully spell-checked, too!

Well, Dear Leader begs to differ. (From @wolfpup’s CNN link above)

“The FEMA thing has not been a very successful experiment,” Trump said Tuesday. “It’s extremely expensive, and again, when you have a tornado or a hurricane or you have a problem of any kind in a state, that’s what you have governors for. They’re supposed to fix those problems.”

So there neener neener neener.

Yes of course. My point is that absent federal money, the entire federal, state and local enterprise will fail. Which to you and me is obviously a bad thing.

trump’s point is the same.

Except that in his twisted view, it’s a good thing. Or at least a thing that doesn’t bother him since it’s not his house that was destroyed. Were his house to be destroyed, the taxpayers would rebuild it better not via FEMA, but via some special kings-only program with massive graft.

Eggs-zackly. The only point of having a federal government is to receive taxes raised by the states. The use: for him to improve his personal quality of life. Oh yeah, and to maintain an army in case anyone else doesn’t see it that way. Let the states fend for themselves in everything-- weather reports, road/infrastructure maintenance, mail delivery, anything and everything involving health, education! Let’s just shut down the whole federal gummint. Hey, that’s way Elon tried to do, and he almost succeeded.

The carnage to America’s most important institutions continues:

All 12 members of the board overseeing the prestigious Fulbright scholarships resigned Wednesday, protesting the Trump administration’s alleged meddling with the selection of award recipients for the international exchange program.

A statement published by the board members said the administration usurped their authority by denying awards to “a substantial number of people” who had already been chosen to study and teach in the U.S. and abroad. Another 1,200 foreign award recipients who were already approved to come to the U.S. are undergoing an unauthorized review process that could lead to their rejection, the board members said.

“To continue to serve after the Administration has consistently ignored the Board’s request that they follow the law would risk legitimizing actions we believe are unlawful and damage the integrity of this storied program and America’s credibility abroad,” the statement reads.

I imagine that CBS will be threatened with license suspension for reporting on this.

Too bad CBS doesn’t have a license. Well, it does have a few of them, but the vast majority of so-called “CBS licenses” are held by CBS affiliates, who just carry CBS programming.

If Trump threatens “CBS license suspension,” it just demonstrates that he really doesn’t know how this all works. Not really surprising.

He may or may not know. What’s important is that he doesn’t care whether he does or doesn’t know. He’s just making belligerent mouth-noises because he knows his idiot followers don’t know the things he’s saying don’t make any sense. Thus it ever was, thus it ever shall be.

The vast majority of tiny market stations, that is. Our biggest cities all are served by network-owned stations.

If Trump actually has those licenses pulled, this will make it much harder for Democrats to get their message across to average Americans. At that point, Trump would be a real dictator, not a wannabe.

It’s also the case that no matter how it’s supposed to work on paper, he can probably lawlessly remove their licenses and force them off the air. Or at least coerce their managements into behaving in exchange for their businesses being allowed to continue to exist.

It’s the various observers who keep saying “He can’t do that; it’s against the law/rules” who’re being fantasy-driven. trump isn’t engaging in flights of fantasy: he’s remaking reality into his fantasy. And successfully so.

I would switch that around to “He is making fantasy into HIS reality”

And somehow this moron is doing it. With the help of 70 million other morons.

Not just “tiny” markets; yes, pretty much all of the biggest media markets, and a few at the next tier, have owned-and-operated CBS stations, but most CBS stations in mid-level markets (as well as the little ones) aren’t owned by the network.

Long ago the maximum number of OTA stations the traditional networks could own was five. I don’t know if that’s been relaxed lately.

Yes, exactly right. And the reality that Trump is creating is the one espoused by his MAGA cult, where science, education, culture, and even basic news are all suppressed, and ignorance is celebrated. It’s the cult of idiocracy.

Trump was asked today about the “No Kings” protests scheduled for Saturday. He said “No, we’re not a king.”

But he’s trying out that Royal We, though.

Umm… Royal?

As in the apocryphal comment by the late QE-II - “We are not amused.” The “we” is she and only she.

No, Royale.

I’m not thinking royal as
Inclusiveness. I’m thinking royal as in king.

Your cite is defective.

Not following you. Sorry.

Criminal trump means he is royalty and the country is his property. He’s not speaking on behalf of us; he’s speaking about us.
