The Daily Show starring ... Rob Corddry

oh good - I was wondering what happened to him. I alwys look forward to the “Back in Black” segments

Third? Don’t you mean second?
(That is to say, DS was the first show, and Colbert is the first spin-off, and Lewis Balck will be the second spinoff, leaving us with three shows total.)

I see what you’re saying about two coming after one, but Black’s show just feels like a third spinoff to me, you know? That’s where the truthiness is.

[Actually I got “third” from deevee. Maybe deevee already heard about Black’s show.]

Nah, there’s no way Arnett actually felt slighted by that, he was just going along with the joke. Will Arnett’s toured with Corddry’s comedy troupe Naked Babies, and they’ve worked together elsewhere. The joke was the host promoting himself over the guest. Arnett knows comedy, and the only way to further that joke is to play the affronted guest. He did a little deadpan. That’s cooperative comedy.

Remember, Will Arnett was certainly not there to promote his work on Arrested Development.

Anyway, I agree that it fell flat.

It was something like:

“I decide what my viewers get to hear.”

“Is he teasing me, or is he serious about that?”

(And then another question, the answer to which was bleeped out.)

I agree. Arnett has an interview persona, and he acted the same way on Conan a few weeks ago.

Overall… not so hot. When Stewart talks to one of the correspondents, he does a good job of playing a genuinely confused straight man, thrown by the absurdity of the corresponent’s comments. Corddry can’t pull this off if he looks like he’s (barely) holding back the impulse to blurt out his own wackiness.

The problem there is that the segments were written for Stewart’s on-air persona, not Corddry’s. If they had time, they could find a style that worked better for him.

I thought he did a great job with the opening. Interview was OK.

Best joke: “KWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!”

2nd best: last minute of the show checking in with Colbert, who refused to talk to a stand in

I couldn’t stop laughing along with Colbert. It was good.

And I have always wanted them to do either my congresscritter (Jesse Jackson Jr) or someone from IL–and they did Rod “Smith”! The name alone had me in stitches. It was seriously posited here during the election that he could NOT get elected with his last name…sorry, laughing again at it all.
I wish I could see it again. I think I need TiVo.

Where did you see this? A Google search on “lewis black” “red state nation” turned up zero hits. And I don’t see any mention of a show under any other name.

I want it to be true, but…

I had tears in my eyes the first time through, and I watched the rerun just to see him lose it again. He actually started to laugh when he was reading the line off the prompter. The stalkery 80s “Charlene” song was also a hoot.

I heard something this mornign about him starring in a new Fox series.

I still compare all of the “new guys” to the two Steve’s and still not as good.

I didn’t get it. Is it a “Wrath of Kahn” reference, or dd I miss something earlier in the show? Either way I kind of grimaced at the theatrics.

That’s because I screwed up the name - it’s Red State Diaries.

Sounds like the title is a play on Duchovney old Showtime show Red Shoe Diaries.

Jim

oops: it is.

yes - from ST:II WoK - about 2/3rds into the flick, upon realizing the his foe now has him at a distinct disadvantage, Kirk leans back in his chair, shakes his fists at the ceiling and screams *KAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!! *

You didn’t screw it up half as bad as they did. Wait until the legal department finds out that there already is a blog and a podcast by that name.

But upthread it says he said, “Kwan”–is this a reference to the Olympics?
(if so, Sasha Cohen is probably shitting herself).

I think I’m in love with Colbert–but I want to have dinner and _____ with Stewart.

I bet Colbert could get his epic sci-fi book published now! (can you see him on Oprah? joy!)

Yeah, it was a reference to Michelle Kwan being on the Olympic team even though she missed some of the qualifying events because of injuries.
