Not even close and it kinda bugged me when Corddry screwed it up, Trek geek that I am. In that scene, Kirk is standing in the caverns of the Genesis Project phase II, nowhere near a chair, let alone the bridge of the Enterprise. He yells in fury with his eyes pointing somewhat ceiling-ward, not his face. There is no fist-shaking, though he does grip his communicator with white-knuckle force. The yell is repeated several times, but the view cuts back to show the asteroid, implying that Kirk’s fury is echoing through space.
Jon has actually done the “Khan” yell before, a couple years ago in a joke about the Pakistani nuclear guy. It was just like this “Kwan” yell, with the overhead view.
I think it’s actually seen in some of the current Daily Show promos, although the sound is almost muted.
I think Jon stole it from a Seinfeld episode. Jerry accidently got George involved in a charity foundation after the death of Susan by quoting from Star Trek 2.
George: Don’t you see? I’m back in!
Jerry: Because of Wrath of Khan?
George: Yes!
Jerry: Well, it was the best of those movies.
George: KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!!! (with the whole overhead camera, shaking fists, yelling theatrically)
I defer to your superior geekitude
My proudest Trek-related post, since (among other reasons) it inspired fellow-geek NoClueBoy to do the Khan-scream.
Actually I was counting Jon Stewart as being spun off from Craig Kilborn.
Well that is the rare example of the Spin off being better than the Original.
I would add the Simpsons to this elite category. (Tracy Ullman Show)
I suppose the Andy Griffith show could round it out. (from THE DANNY THOMAS SHOW)
