The Daily Times goes for Kerry!

Our local paper, The Salisbury Daily Times, goes against the prevailing local tide of conservative Maryland Eastern Shore political sentiment, and endorses Kerry. Is their rationale sound?

Kerry will be better leader - America ready for a change

Given the traditional conservative inclination of that area of Maryland, this is somewhat surprising. Kerry might have thought it off the table, out of reach of his campaign, but clearly Kerry has a stake in Salisbury.

Pity we don’t pick our president based on newspaper endorsements.

In the latest daily update to our exclusive list of editorial endorsements for president, 41 newspapers that backed President Bush in 2000 have switched to Sen. John Kerry. …

… In the closing days of the endorsement race, Kerry now leads comfortably, 175 newspapers to 138. The Democrat’s list grew by 13 today, compared with nine new endorsements for Bush. The circulation count of papers supporting Kerry is no contest; he leads 18.8 million to 12.1 million.

Wouldn’t be any less legitimate that the Electoral College.

Did the heat of the campaign season cause the author of that editorial to become unhenged, or was he just stoned? Whatever the cause, one thing is sarsen: Now is the time for all good menhir to exercise their megalithic responsibility, stand with their party, and vote. If the eastern Maryland GOP can’t get it together to fix the endorsements, president Bush’s chance for a second term is in an aubrey big hole.
