The Dark Tower: Did it ever say how Eddie's mother died?

I got Bev Vincent’s The Road to the Dark Tower for Christmas, and I’ve been rereading the series. I’m currently reading book 3, The Wastelands.

But it occured to me that I don’t know how or when Eddie’s mother died. Anybody remember? Eddie and Henry were shooting up at their mother’s apartment, right? Was it ever mentioned what happened to her?

Man, I love this series. I’ve known these people for so long, they’re like friends.

I seem to recall that she had uterine cancer, but don’t quote me on it.
