the death of the Dope

In my understanding, the mods often work together to make decisions on contentious or board-culture-impacting issues, so it might not matter which forums they were assigned to. But since multiple mods are assigned to most forums, and considering that Moderator is an unpaid volunteer position, then assuming there are volunteers, adding new moderators for each major forum would not put a strain on board resources (unless I’m misunderstanding something).

I don’t know. I also don’t know if the board is actively trying to recruit women moderators. I hope they are.

OK, so what are the major forums?

I agree it shouldn’t strain the board at all but again, are there enough volunteers? Not sure if you realize this, but modding a board like the Dope is a pain in the ass. Might be less volunteers than you think, or at least good volunteers.

IMO, GQ, GD/Elections, CS, IMHO, MPSIMS, and the Pit.

Possibly – I don’t know.

This being the Pit, I believe you can say something nasty about Dio’s :smack:last months. He can complain about it on the Giraffe Board.

I think you can remind us why Dio was banned. I recall it being one of the lengthiest Suicide by Mods ever.

Yeah, I don’t get that either. The Pit is, as advertised, the forum in which the language becomes soiled. Nobody said anyone has to like or enjoy the Pit. There are plenty of other forums where the discourse is more adult-like and the tone is moderate.

In Bricker’s defense, he took a personal beating on a regular basis, so I understand why he left. I hardly ever agreed with him, but I think this place has become so angry at the conservative trolls - understandable - that every conservative looks like a nail sticking out begging for a hammer.

Bricker was a good poster.

If you grade on a curve, segregated by political affiliation, sure.

Fair enough, but that would be 6 new mods and I doubt they would want to bring on more than 2 at a time. So maybe a 3 month phase in? (Like I have a real clue)

I missed the suicide by mod, but Dio forever was an overly persistent debater who parsed the meanings out of posts and wouldn’t let go, overwhelming actual debate in the threads. Other than that, I liked Dio and agreed with a fair amount of his opinions.

I agree.

That’s not fair, he was continually asked to defend voting for Trump when he didn’t even vote for Trump. On this board, thanks to a few posters, everyone that voted for Trump is evil. Not a really realistic position, but the one you would get glancing through GD & the Pit.

I didn’t agree with Bricker on a lot of things, but I still respected him and his knowledge.

The issue is the farcical hypocrisy. Don’t whine that the forums are not a safe place because of a Daphne vs Wilma or an AOC dancing reference, should I put that in a spoiler?, and then threaten the mods if you don’t get your way on one hand and then, with the other hand, participate in vile name calling in the pit or gender, age, and race based insults outside of the pit. And it’s even more hypocritical that when these same folks who are so sensitive outside of the pit engage in name calling in the pit whine when it’s returned which got at least one poster banned.

For someone who doesn’t like whining, you sure do whine a lot

Oh please. Conservative troll on this board is the epitome of redundancy. Hell, even left wing posters will get serious grief if they don’t fall in line not just with what they believe but if the aren’t sufficiently woke in tone and fervor.

When that happens the usual gang goes through a routine to attack and delegitimize the poster to provoke a response which “proves” the initial assertions against their target. It’s so transparent.

I mentioned AOC dancing, shouldn’t you and your snarkers be flooding the mods with reports?

Maybe we’re just good at spotting bait, troll?

Still Pit-bitching?
If someone climbs into a boxing ring and, after getting knocked out, complains about the violence that person can rightfully be called an idiot. If that person keeps climbing back into the ring over and over and over again with the same results then the only conclusion we can possibly make is that this person wants to get hit, not that every other person this idiot encounters in the ring is part of some “gang”.
so: Are you an idiot, a masochist, or both?

I don’t quite see that way; it’s more like…facts or shut the fuck up.

That can seem harsh sometimes, particularly if you’re on the receiving end of it, but there’s nothing wrong with someone challenging the quality of your information and the epistemic basis of your worldview. It stings sometimes, but fighting ignorance isn’t always clean.

I’m not familiar with any of this - any examples?

It’s a Trumpian degree of projection. Ignore it.

Shouldn’t you and your ilk be out hunting mammoths?

Bad analogy. And you know is a bad analogy. You should feel bad.

Bottom line: it’s hypocritical to whine about an unwelcoming board based on the tolerance of the existence of a comment on Laverne or Shirley yet have a whole sub forum where you can accuse other posters of molesting their own children or telling them to engage in sodomy with a cactus. Even you should be able to see the dichotomy.

Sure, in the political forums challenging the posts is fine and my opinions on some subjects has evolved due to that discussion. The constant ad-hominem not so much. Pining for Bricker? Lol, he was abused here constantly. The revisionist history is more dishonesty.

Ultimately, the ones threatening to leave yet again:rolleyes:, want another private playground where social ostracism and belonging to a clique are the tools to enforce an inconsistent set of social norms.
