He’s got that southern storyteller thang goin on. The “fat”, I think, moved the story together at a deliberate pace. Also, it allowed him basically to give Hillary’s very impressive CV without sounding like a bunch of bullet points.
I leave the speech with a significantly more positive impression of Hillary than I went into it with.
I missed it. Was it that bad? It couldn’t have been more than an hour. Was it just poorly delivered or what? I thought Bill would knock one out of the park for Hilary.
It was excellent. Bill never says anything without there being a reason, and he looped the latter part of the speech back to the beginning masterfully.
LOL, I love that “Was it that bad?” No, it wasn’t “that” bad, or bad at all. It was excellent. He spoke for 35 minutes, which for a former president and current spouse of the nominee seems about right to me, especially when he had so many accomplishments to run through. The woman’s spent a lot of years building an astonishing CV.
I’m not much of a HRC fan myself–my politics are closer to Bernie’s, and I voted for him in the primaries. But like LHoD I was glad for the reminder of her achievements and the things that matter most to her.* Bill did himself and his wife proud. (Weaker in voice he may be, but the guy still knows how to hold a room!)
And it didn’t escape me that he used the words “liberal” and “progressive” during that speech. Those words have been the Democrats’ “Voldemort / He Who Shall Not Be Named” since at least 1988. Damn glad to have them uttered and owned by my party again.
Other than herself and power, that is–she’s a politician and I’m no starry-eyed idealist where she’s concerned. Still, at least there are things she cares about besides herself and power, and countless things she’s done for others to make their lives better. That’s a helluva lot more than one can say about the lying, opportunistic, ignorant megalomaniac the Republicans have nominated.
I wasn’t listening closely, but I heard him take a jab at Trump (other than the very obvious “making shit up”) when he said that Hillary helped disabled people, rather than making fun of them.
