The Democratic National Convention

I think the Republicans say that we should give tax rebates to the people who do not need it, which will result in us having more money. But that will not happen right away, so we have to borrow a bit[sup]*[/sup] to get through to that point.

a billion here, a billion there, sooner or later you are talking* real* money*

As a civil engineer and a member of ASCE, your comments offend me. Engineers, like doctors and lawyers, are legally bound by a code of ethics. You’re kidding yourself if you don’t think our infrastructure is falling apart.

PS, I apologize for the hijack.

In order to win as many votes as possible, the latest from the Democrat Con is that they have totally revamped their platform. Condensing it into one line only: “Vote Hillary because Donald Trump is the Bogey Man”.

What’s the “Democrat Con”? Do you mean the Democratic Convention?

Conservatives Stunned by how much they liked Obama’s Speech

Yes, I misspoke.

We needed to do something, and we didn’t do it. Way back when we were talking stimulus. We had, and still have, a buttload of spending that needed to be done. Roads, bridges, dams, the whole shebang.

We had idle workers, needed to be put to work. Concrete, steel, machinery, all of that wasn’t ever going to get cheaper, it was all at rock bottom. Borrowing money was possible at interest rates that could only go up, there was no down to go.

It was the actual opposite of the perfect storm, the perfect opportunity. Was it “austerity” or “aww, stupidity”? It was Republicans. We could have fixed what needed to be fixed, and started our economic machinery humming, and they would not do it because Obama, or socialism, or stupid.

Now, that opportunity is passed, and the stuff still needs fixing, plus, there’s more stuff, because we didn’t. So, now we still have to fix it, and theres more of it, and it will cost a lot more to do it.

You forgot my personal favorite line, that most teachers are women and their husbands are the ones actually paying the bills. Teaching is just a secondary income.

I say that as a husband who earns almost twice as much as my wife, and she is in a non-education social services field.

Vote Hillary because Donald Trump is Humphrey Bogart? That doesn’t make a lick of sense.

I agree with every word you wrote, elucidator. I was insane with frustration watching as Republicans employed every tactic in their arsenal to prevent the infrastructure spending practically begged for by the Obama Administration during the earliest years of his presidency, as he and his cabinet worked desperately to head off a global depression. Borrowing was never cheaper, infrastructure spending would have put millions of Americans back on the job fast doing work that not only must be done but will provide returns on our investment in the future many times over. They didn’t care. It was more important to make Obama look like a failure. The millions who suffered for their choices and the millions who still do… gaahhhh. But it still needs doing and will still be a tremendous investment, even if more costly – if Democrats can regain control of Congress.

I reveled in Obama’s speech last night. I hope the day comes when he may be vindicated in full. Never has a president been so maligned on the basis of so little factual information.

California under Jerry Brown has been trying to build a high speed rail for years, despite the Republicans and their backers dragging their feet and kicking and screaming and putting as many roadblocks up as possible (anti-HSR votes, lawsuits, etc.) in its way.

Perhaps, if you took one more hit on your kabong, it might just come into focus. Then again, I could have been wrong.

Today’s youth: so out of touch with the wonders that Hanna-Barbera produced.

Trump wants to build a giant wall. That’ll put people to work, I suppose. :dubious:

Well, we can close this thread. It’s all over. Your next President will be Gary Johnson, because he just nabbed the coveted Marvin Bush endorsement.

Vote Hillary because Donald Trump is a lousy golfer? That doesn’t make a lick of sense.

Right now, I joined the Bud Light party. The commercial was too catchy. Bud Light is good, moderate, and easier to swallow than the left and right.

Also, an excellent enhancement for making important decisions! Who knows how many Americans owe their very existence to decisions made with beer!

I’d rather drink battery acid.

Obligatory John Oliver’s take down of Bud Light.
