David Troughton also played Professor Hobbes in one of the best and scariest Tennant-era episodes, “Midnight”. That one would have made a great Twilight Zone.
Damn it, my DVR recorded a replay of the 1st Doctor special instead of the 2nd Doctor one. :smack:
I forgot that one - the diamond planet one. Yes that was a good one - you could imagin it in the twilight zone set on a plane
So the actor playing Patrick Troughton in the special about the beginnings of Doctor Who (Adventures In Space And Time) will be Reece Shearsmith, who is writer Mark Gatiss’s friend from the show The League of Gentlemen and I can’t see much resemblance. I’d rather cast someone along the lines of Jason Isaacs
I think his son Michaelwould be better - he looks like his father and is an actor to book
But Piers Fletcher-Dervish hasn’t acted in years.
But Allllannn. Please…
I’m a little torn by this series. I love that they show the old serials and go in depth into the character development but while there is a lot of what, there is very little why. Why did Hartnell leave Doctor Who (I know but they didn’t say in the BBC programme). Why did they decide to go with a different personality than Hartnell? Was it a deliberate choice (like on MASH) or something that just happened?
On the plus side, after seeing the serials, Mrs Cad no longer says how cheesy ST:TOS looks.
I was worried about this too. The only first doctor episode I’ve seen is the Aztecs and the only second doctor episode I’ve seen is The Mind Robber because these are the only ones available on Netflix streaming.
John Barrowman is the first former Companion to confirm that he’s been approached about the 50th.
Though he followed it up with this Twitter:
Oh Hell yes bring us some Captain Jack action. Preferably interacting with River Song. screen blows up with sexy
But now they’ve actually put them up on On Demand. :D:D:D About time.
pun unintended
On the fields of Trenzalore, at the fall of the Eleventh, (when no living creature may speak falsely or fail to give answer), a question will be asked. A question that must never, ever be answered."
Brian
Consider that Steven Moffat wrote the scene where River Song knew the Doctor’s name in the episode Forest of the Dead. It’s always been one of those things that he’s seen has story potential.
Ian Chesterton! The trailer ends with a line from Ian Chesterton! Continuity!
Yup, I can say that, but only if you mean the tv series, IIRC the first film came out before the tv series, and anyway we could not afford to go to the pictures back then.
That first series was hardly even science fiction to be honest, I remember a load of cavemen shuffling around - it seemed pretty tame at the time.
Actually it seems I am wrong the films came some time after the first series, but still didn’t get to see those films until years after when they arrived on tv.
Damned memory, must be getting old…now get off my lawn
And I was quite sure he’d decided to forget all about it, until seeing this (awesome) trailer. Looks like I’ve got until the fall to mainline all the Classic Who I can so I’ll be up to speed.
This on the new series:
I thought they did from the classic Who DVDs that are still being released.
I remember they used to show an episode of Blakes 7 followed by a Who omnibus every saturday morning on cable TV. Wish I had taped some of the episodes, would have saved me money on DVDs later down the line
The surviving and one restored Troughton stories from his final season are quite enjoyable, The Mind Robber, The Invasion, The Seeds of Death and the lengthy final 2nd Doctor story The War Games. Novelisations of his missing episodes/serials suggest that they would have been equally so.
