Well, Schumer has blinked. The senate has agreed on a budget and it does nothing about DACA. I presume the tea party will not be able to block in the house and his royal piece of shit will sign it.
How are DACAs fucked?
The budget has shit to do with DACA.
Control the borders to some reasonable extent (and lack of said control is why DACA is a problem in the first place) and DACA people will get what they need.
Dreamer support is a mile wide and less than an inch deep. Shutting down the government over Dreamers would have been political suicide for the Democrats. Governing from the minority sucks.
I remain cautiously optimistic a Dreamer deal will get done now that the budget has been completed

DACA, when the wall is built.
:D:D
Trump…when the political support went away (or through the roof)…
I love that STNG episode !
But seriously…I saw a news article over the weekend…from Huffpost or Yahoo most likely…Trump has offered a path to CITIZENSHIP (not just legal residency)…the article bitching and moaning that Trumps offer to 1.8 million wasn’t enough and did not cover enough people…like wait…WTF…Obama was like .8 mill…but 1.8 isn’t enough because you know it is from Trump!..and now all of a sudden it seems we need more like even twice that…3 plus million…
WTH?
And to note…virtually every comment following that news article was “article/POV full of shit”.
The dem leaders and many liberals are IMO really misreading this whole thing.
Don’t accept a “wall” and some reasonable immigration reform as the price to do it…and have DACA folks shitting their pants and running scared…no skin off me…

*Trump, when he kept a commitment.

Translation: Never!
By being pawns in a high stakes game.
How that?
Trump’s offered a path…but the dems can’t stand Trump having a win…for that matter I think the dems can’t stand the idea of the problem going away in general…one less cause for them to run on.
Dreamers could make up an additional 2 million voters who would mostly ID with the democrats. Also supporting the Dreamers will increase support for the democrats among latinos and immigrants. There are a decent number of dreamers in swing states like TX, AZ, NV, NM, CO, etc.
It should be a political winner, plus it is supported by 70-80% of the public.
That’s Trump’s genius (or random dumb luck…hard to tell).
The way the dems are playing this it is going to be TRUMP that appears to give the DACA people what they want/need and the dems looking like jackasses playing politics…with some political fallout not so good for dem side.
I’ll believe it when I see him stop being so overtly racist.
Only if your view of what DACA recipients need is to be deported to countries where they didn’t grow up and may not speak the language or have any social or family ties. The budget, and a negotiation over this idiotic physical barrier (which is not a wall unless you buy Sean Spicer’s attempt to sell it as a “bollard wall”) was a means to try to get Trump to live up to his supposed concern for DACA recipients. Senate Republicans and Democrats already previously came to an agreement that maintained DACA protections which Trump rejected, because unlike your characterization of “the dems can’t stand Trump having a win”, it is Trump who has to view everything in terms of winning and losing, and in his view the only way he gets a win is if everyone else loses.
The principle of reniging on commitments after you’ve received a concession is right in The Art of the Deal. It’s exactly the what Trump does, and it’s as infuriating to Republican congresspeople as it is to the Democrats. Trump couldn’t make an actual deal to save his life, which is why American banks won’t lend money to him anymore. Well, that and the fact that he ran two casinos–a business with a statistically-guaranteed gross profit margin–into the ground, as well as various other enterprises from airlines to sports franchises to food. In fact, it’s difficult to find a business that Trump has been genuinely successful at other than relentless self-promotion.
Still, this reinforces my long-held believe that Chuck Schumer is basically an empty suit with an obnoxious accent.
Stranger
A dreamer deal will get done simply because the logistics of enforcing the laws are beyond the scope of our ability to enforce. Better to make a deal than simply fail to enforce. Trump negotiates by starting far to the right and then fighting his way to the center.
I don’t know, I don’t think Dreamers are going to overlook all the nativism and white nationalism in the modern GOP and that gave birth to Trump.
You just described a chess move.
Checkmate.
And if they get no deal because the Democrats balked?
Don’t get me wrong…if Trump plays this “right” it is as likely random chance and dumb luck as it is him playing 4 D chess with a 3 D opponent.
But IMO…the Dems have a good chance of fucking themselves over in this debacle as well.
Trump is like a honeybadger…he don’t give a shit…the Dems probably don’t want to take that same stance…
I don’t have a problem with the Dems making DACA a talking point in budget negotiations, but they’re making a tactical error in using this issue to talk up a government shutdown. First of all, it’s not the issue that’s going to shut down the government and they know it. And secondly, every time they talk this up in the context of a shutdown, they look weak when it doesn’t happen. In short, they’re talking shit and the Republicans are calling their bluff, and like Democrats have for far too often the last 10-20 years…they end up looking like a bunch of pink string-bikini wearing pussies.
Which brings us to the premise of the OP.
The dreamers are not remotely fucked because they did not/ won’t get a deal tied to a budget resolution. There are offers on the table to get what the DACA people need…but they come with RELATED conditions that the Dems just can’t stand…and ones the dems are not in touch with when it comes to the general voting population. Recent polls show this.
