The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim post-release thread

Yep, that did the trick. Appreciate it! It’s sort of a convoluted way to do it (not like other Steam games I’ve had), but it’s downloading the content right now. Freaking huge from the looks of it.

People on the Steam forums were saying that you should restart Steam. That worked for me.

Well, it’s working now so no reason to restart. I’ll try that next time. I’ll looking forward to this, though I’m a bit bummed that it’s not a full blown DLC with a ton of new content…and that the first one of those won’t be released for the PC first. :frowning:

Honestly, I’m glad that the surprise wasn’t a full blown DLC, since having to wait 30 days for the PC to get it would just be frustrating. “Surprise! You get nothing!”

True…excellent point. Well, I’m pretty content, overall, and still love the game to death, even if I haven’t been home a lot recently to play (I don’t have a laptop that I take on the road anymore, sadly, and the best my iPad 2 has atm is Bards Tale). I’m hoping for a flood of mods soon, since IIRC the creation kit is either out or coming soon.

It came out the same time the texture pack did.

Excellent!

I bought a horse. It’s like riding Snuffleupagus.

WOOOHOOO…

Just bought the three pack on sale today (for 50 bucks). It includes The Elder Scrolls III, IV, and V.
Just for the record, I have never played ANY of these games before. I have no idea what to expect. I’ve only heard of the names of these games (Skyrim this and Skyrim that), but other then the name, I know nothing about these games. Everything will be brand new to me and totally unexpected.
I haven’t even read any posts in this topic save for one or two after my first one in here, above (post 1512), but I’m betting, by the time I start playing Skyrim, I will have read this topic from beginning to whatever the last post is then.
I may not get around to Skyrim for awhile, though,…because I plan to play through the other two first (III and IV). So having heard how long it takes to play these games, I will probably get around to V in about two or three years. :stuck_out_tongue:

Still, I’m stoked, though. Can’t believe I bought them.

Oh boy oh boy oh boy. I’ve been jonesing for the Creation Kit since before Skyrim even came out. My game is updating at this very moment. Steam tells me it will be ready to play in approximately—1 day 14 hours :(.

Steam Workshop’s up and running after a Steam restart. Already installing a mod off there; one for fast travel to houses.

Something weird happened to me the other day. I was in an orc camp, in the chieftain’s room, and about ready to quit for the night. I saved and decided to mess around a bit before hitting quit. So, I whipped out some blizzard scrolls, killed everyone in the place, and made a zombie. Lydia also made a zombie with her staff. I then fusrodahhed Lydia and the two zombies, just for the heck of it.

After that, all of a sudden, my zombie started attacking Lydia’s zombie. Lydia was not attacking me. To make matters weirder, the other zombie didn’t fight back. Instead it hightailed it out of the room, never to be seen again! I don’t think my zombie had a fear-effect sword either…

TLDR… Zombie Fight!!!

Man, it really looks great with the high rez pack installed. I haven’t run across a dragon in high rez yet, but it’s going to be awesome.

Am I missing something obvious or does the Steam Workshop mod download-thingie (via Steam) not allow you to search by name?

And, if not, why in God’s name would they put up a mod “catalog” and not allow you to search for mods by name?

Only 12 hours and 22 minutes to go!

So, looks like the Steam Workshop is up and running (on preview, I see Mr. Kobayashi already noted this). I’ve installed a mod for Shadowmere and one that makes dragon encounters more probable, but haven’t tried to run the game yet with them. I was looking for the map mod I heard about that allows you to zoom all the way in from the map and actually see towns and streets and such, but haven’t seen it yet. Can folks start posting the mods they have tried and ones they like? From experience with the Fallout games, modding is one of my favorite aspects of the game. I see there are quite a few mods for new houses, plus a few mods for existing houses that add more chests and such that I’ll probably get.

Skyrim Script extender / SKSE is not on Steam Workshop, right? Or if you get it from Nexus, no way to run it through Steam menu?

I saw somewhere (from a random guy on the internet relaying second hand :)) that a search function may come later.

All I’ve tried is SkyUI, which is pretty handy.

I was going to get the SkyUI, but it said it required another mod and I didn’t feel like hunting it up. I did get the Bag of Holding mod, which seems pretty handy. I had something like it in Fallout. I like the way it automatically downloads the mod to the correct directory and turns them on (you can still disable them in the same way as before)…this is really pretty cool.

ETA: The Moar Dragons mod is pretty insane. I’ve played about 10 minutes so far and been in 4 dragon fights. If my character weren’t so ridiculously powerful it’d be a pretty hard time to survive in the wild with this mod.

I already have some existing mods from Skyrim Nexus (installed manually). Will this clash with anything from the Steam Workshop? Or should I reinstall my Skyrim?

Well, mods always have the potential to clash, but Steam is just automating the download and placement and load, so your old mods should be fine with the first caveat.
