The Electronic Music Thread

Inspired by the recent thread on Aphex Twin.

I don’t know how to do this, but let me start dropping names. If you like some in the list, you’ll probably like others. Oh yeah, and how bout some representative tracks too.

Aphex Twin – Windowlicker; Alberto Balsam
Amon Tobin – Deo, Slowly, 4 Ton Mantis
DJ Shadow – What Does Your Soul Look Like (Part 2); Midnight in a Perfect World
DJ Icey – Take The Time; Air Is Full Of Sound
UNKLE – Bloodstain; Celestial Annihilation
RJD2 – Smoke and Mirrors; Ghostwriter
Underworld – Born Slippy
Boards of Canada – ROYGBIV
Squarepusher – Ultravistor
Prodigy – The Weather Experience; 3 Kilos
Massive Attack – Group Four; Inertia Creeps
OK OK, so some of those might be Hip-Hop or Trip-Hop or whatever. I’m bad with classification. I know what I call it.

Prodigy - Smack My Bitch Up
Underworld - MMM Skyscraper I Love You, Cowgirl, Push Upstairs
Dust Brothers - This Is Your Life
The Art Of Noise - Moments In Love
The Chemical Brothers - Block Rockin’ Beats
Freestylers - great album
Expansion Union - another great album
The Crystal Method - Born Too Slow, Bound Too Long, Weapons of Mass Distortion

All of my own music (all downloads available free as a public service from me to y’all… thanks for listening! I love my fans!)

Some of Moby’s earlier stuff (like from his album Ambient – Heaven
Bjork – Hyperballad
Sasha and Digweed – Like A Bitch;
Orbital – The Box (Pt. 1 & 2)
Bonobo – The Plug; Noctuary
Roni Size – New Forms

Personally I wish people would use the word “electronica” or “techno” or something like that to refer to this whole genre. I don’t like seeing the term “electronic music” used for dance/beat-oriented styles–to me, at least, that phrase calls to mind the likes of Morton Subotnick, Tod Dockstadter, Pauline Oliveros, Ilhan Mimaroglu, Kenneth Gaburo, and so on, not Aphex Twin or Orbital.

Not to mention Karlheinz Stockhausen and Iannis Xenakis.

Nurse With Wound for teh win!

How about Deitrich von Scholenbauer or Emannis Xelofios. Dilian Trommpis?

…of Ulm.

Bah! None of them have a video even remotely as cool as Mr. Oizo’s Flat Beat!

Hey Bo, I like your stuff. Sounds pretty cool. What program do you use to make it?

Moby - Go & Feeling So Real
Motorcycle - As the Rush Comes
The Chemical Brothers - Star Guitar & Galvanize
The Orb - Little Fluffy Clouds & Blue Room
William Orbit - Adagio For Strings (esp. the Ferry Corsten remix)
Armin van Buuren - Communication
Banco de Gaia - Last Train to Lhasa
Kraftwerk - Radioactivity
Fatboy Slim - The Rockafeller Skank
Tiësto - Forever Today

Seconded DJ Tiesto’s Forever Today

Juno Reactor - Conga Fury (the whole Bible of Dreams album actually)

Delerium - Silence (or any of its remixes. As near to perfect a song as possible, ironically reinforced by it’s malleability)

So many others, but I usually listen to streaming broadcasts and never get a chance to hear artist or song names.

How about an oldy but a goody: Enigma - The Rivers of Belief

Speaking of Tiësto, if you have a chance to see Tiësto In Concert, don’t pass it up. It’s qyite the spectacle…the most fun I had in a long time.
