The Elevator Thread (a/k/a Really Bad Music)

“There’s a ship lies rigged and ready in the ha-arboorrr. Tomorrow for old Enngland she sails . . .”

“Up up and away in my beautiful, my beautiful ba-LOON . . .”

“Long and tall and dark and lovely the girl from Ipenema goes walking and when she passes he smiles but she doesn’t see.”

The disco arrangement of the Main Title of Star Wars.

Smooth jazz. All of it.

The Muzak™ version of Devo’s I’m Through Bein’ Cool. Wait a minute, Devo did that one.

Once I heard a full orchestra (with real orchestral instruments) do the music from the end of Return of the Jedi. You know, the part where the Ewoks are partying?

It so did NOT work…

The Beatles in an elevator still gives me pause.

Falco’s Puttin’ On The Ritz. In an elevator. Why?

That was Taco. Falco was Rock Me Amadeus.

Hang on a minute, I LIKE elevator music…I love Sergio Mendes & Brasil 66’ …maybe I’m just weird, though.

That’s iampunha, not Ipanema.

I once left a full cart in a supermarket and walked out in disgust.

The reason?

The stereo system stated playing a muzak version of Stairway to Heaven, cheesy violins and Richard Claydermann-piano included.

Why? Why did you have to add that song to the annoying soundtrack playing in my mind? Couldn’t you have left me alone in my ignorance? Does fighting ignorance have to be so painful?

[hijack] Was it Taco or Falco that was recently killed? I remember when I heard about it, I’ll always remember where I was. Too bad I can’t remember which one it was.[/hijack]

It was Falco…god, I miss him!

I once heard a lite, orchestral version of “A Whiter Shade of Pale” while shopping in a supermarket. I lost my apetite and bought less food as a result.

Oddly enough i was in a chain grocey store the other week and they were playing Joy Division’s “Love will tear us apart” i shop there a lot more often now.
