When I first signed up at the boards last August, it was on a whim, so I used my standard username, twickster47. It was pogo (embarassingly enough) that first expected me to quantify my degree of twicksterdom, and it has always seemed easier to use the same username everywhere, esp. since that’s the name on my secondary email account, the one at yahoo (another site that expected me to so limit myself numerically).
Of course, I quickly became as Dope-addicted as everyone else, and I’ve become not only a several-times-a-day reader, but a way-too-many-times-a-day poster. (My to-do list for today, scribbled on my bf’s actual list – “read the boards, go to family Easter dinner, take nap, read the boards…” Imagine – he didn’t get it.)
Anyway, y’all are a friendly crowd, and will often address me as twickster47 – and every time I see someone else use the name, I think, “well, actually the ‘47’ is silent.” We discussed it in the infamous “a” thread at one point – perhaps around page 63?
– and the consensus was that I should ask for a name change.
On the other hand – the 47 has always been there, and leaving it behind seems like severing a connection to part of my personal history – kind of like the loss of some multi-syllabic family name at Ellis Island. Of course, my Lithuanian maternal grandparents (Usaunis and Arlanskas) came in through the port of Philadelphia and kept their names, but that’s not really the point, is it?
What is the point? This is MPSIMS, I don’t need one.
Thank you for listening – and thanks to TVeblen and TubaDiva for making it all happen.
twickster, the poster formerly known as twickster47 – but hey, my friends call me “twicks.”
