Seems like every time I open (or in most cases, print out) a thread to read, I find a new name that turns out to have been changed from another one.
I’m one of those who didn’t know that Left Hand of Dorkness was the former Daniel Withrow
And then fizzymakesfeelnicesomethingortheother goes and changes her name on me…
Constantly I’m reading in threads and learn, almost just by coincedence, that a member changed their name because it either comes up in a topic, or someone quoting the new nick calls them by the old one. I then nod my head and go “Ohhh, that’s who they were”
So why not make it easy on me, eh?
Who did you USED to be?
And feel free to tell me all your names in between too, if you’d be so kind.
I used to be FireUnderpantsBoobs. Sometimes I wonder what I was smoking when I asked to have a name change, cause AwSnappity really doesn’t have the same appeal. But I’m AwSnappity now and forevermore.
I used to be McKenna from mid 1999 until the Winter of Our Missed Content, which I think was early 2001. Moving to another state and changing jobs made me totally forget stuff like my password and all and by the summer of 2001 I was an alley cat invented by the great Don Marquis instead of my mother’s maiden name.
D’oh! 2002 was when I became that cat, as evidenced by a glance at the stat hanging right over my name :smack:
I went to a thread I saved–the initial 9/11 one–because I knew I posted in it. But I had to stop reading after a couple of pages because it made me too upset.
Until fairly recently, I was known as Mayflower. I got tired of it, though, because I used it for everything. I wanted something with a slightly exotic sound that reflected something of me (although, exotic, I ain’t). Since I love to sing, I looked in the thesaurus to find a synonym for “singer” and that’s how I came up with Chanteuse.
I was one of the Ninety-Niners way back when (in fact, I was with the Dope since the ancient AOL era in 1997 or so). I first registered as ishmintingas, which is Lithuanian for ‘wise’ (guy). It actually should have been spelled išmintingas the genuine Lithuanian way. I’m not Lithuanian, I just thought it was a cool language and I pulled the word out of a Lithuanian dictionary. I changed it because it didn’t seem snappy and cute enough. Then, wouldn’t you know, the first Doper I ever met F2F was Geobabe, who is Lithuanian and told me she liked my old name and wished I’d kept it. If only I’d met you before changing it, Geo, I would have kept it!
You’re only supposed to get one name change here, the admins let me change it again, because I’m transgendered, so I got to have a girl name. I loves me some Tuba Diva.
I, too, now wish I had either stayed with my old name or at least dropped the 25 off. But I have no good reason to ask for it back, like Johanna, so I guess I’m SOL.
I was called **Rhino’s Honey ** when I signed on first … pathetic name really cos it was taken from my ex-boyfriends nickname. I couldn’t think of anything else and it was late and I was tired … blah, blah, blah… when I broke up with him (second best thing I ever did), I decided to change it. FYI first best thing I ever did was meet my lovely, sexy, delicious, fantastic husband, Emofkuniv, on here
I’ve always been some version of Honey anywhere I’ve ever been though - oddly enough, people IRL call me that too even though they aren’t aware its my nickname.
I’ve always been Aesiron on this and most other boards. I do have a couple alternates to use when I want to be incognito or my name’s been taken (or more precisely, been inactivated 'cause I made it and never used it again).
And Aanamika, why does your Join Date say Nov. 2001? Aren’t you an '04er?
I used to be Pipeliner, but changed my name last year. I haven’t worked in the pipelining industry for a few years and the original name just had no relevance anymore.
