The end of the holidays - a culture question MMP

Big day,** Bobbio**.

How did you and VWife sleep last night? Any better?

Much better. She’s still on the couch, mostly because the back will protect her left arm from being dog trampled. I’m still on the futon, close enough to be at her beck and call, but far enough away that the dogs aren’t freaking because Something Isn’t Right About This.

She’s coping with being one-armed, and today is her first day by herself. She is running a temperature, so her lupus may be flaring. Stuff like surgery usually brings it on.

I killeded the thread.

The wheels of bureaucracy grind slowly, but grind on. I just heard the Personnel Requisition for the new gig has been submitted, and should be visible via the HR system later today or early tomorrow. I have to formally apply, which takes about 90 seconds, and the PR has to be visible for 3 business days. Then it’s mine, and I will be gainfully employed once again.

Moooooom’s neighborhood will never be the same again…

Home in full ick mode. I went to the office, but it’s dead there. The boss has been surfing the net and reading the paper. When I went to tell him I was leaving, he was doing a Sudoku… So all is calm in the world. I am on call for the balance of the weekend, but I doubt that anything short of WWIII will get me called in, so there’s that.

**FCD **got up long enough to put his new rocks in the tank, then he crawled back in bed. Daughter was in bed surfing. When I get done my reading and stuff, I’m going to assume the knit position. Or nap. Either way.

It was lovely sleeping in my own bed last night. I love my memory foam topper - it makes such a huge difference! I’d have slept better and longer if Taz wasn’t so needy. I think he missed me. Thankfully, he didn’t mark the bed or any of the furniture, so yay for that. I had a dream about our **Rue **last night - he had his own TV show… and a mustache. It didn’t suit him.

Sunny and cold out, and it looks like some of the snow on the driveway is melting, so yay for that, too.

Hugs and stuff all around. I’m too discombobulated to remember everything I wanted to say. We’ll see how I function when this cold passes.

**BBBobbio **- do call if we can help you out in any way that doesn’t inconvenience us…

Glad VWife is feeling a little better.
We had a nice anniversary, and thank you. Today has been housework and organizing day. Gnat’s back in a few minutes- I should prep lunch.

OQD’s husband is having a birthday party on the 31st at a restaurant. At naptime. An hour and a half away. We’re planning on going because his Dad just died and we figure he needs support but it may be more like, “Hello, here are our cranky demon children! Hope your day is improved by their crying!”

VBob, glad the wife is doing good.

Ahem… I’m wearing pants!!!

This is news because I’ve been living in sweats and jammies since the 17th. Some friends are coming by to get me for lunch today so I tried slipping some jeans on to see how hard it would be. No problem, so I’m human again!

Rosie, that is the funniest damn thing I’ve seen in a long time, thanks! Especially loved the giraffe joke, I had to pause so I could regain my composure!

Thank you for your support. :stuck_out_tongue:

The PR is now publicly visible, and I’ve applied.

BusDude, at least you were able to wear sweats. If you had to go with a kilt, I’d’ve stayed further away than I am now. I’m sure the idea of you in a kilt would get Swampy all twitterpated, though…

I made tamari almonds yesterday, only I didn’t because I used soy sauce. It was based on a recipe from Cheap Healthy Good. Loosely based. Bake a lot of almonds at 300F for about fifteen minutes. Mix soy sauce and brown sugar in equal proportions (I think I did about four cups of almonds and half a cup each soy and brown sugar) in a big heatproof bowl. Mix in almonds, stir for a couple of minutes.

Spread them back on the cookie sheet and bake for between 20-30 minutes, until the almonds are browner and the coating looks cooked on. Cool and eat.
Next time I’m doing it on a silicone sheet because they stuck like crazy to the cookie sheet.

They’re really yummy and relatively low-carb. I’m going to see if Gnat likes them.

Just FYI, thisis a good recipe. I used diced onion since I didn’t have green onions and swiss cheese since I like that better than cheddar. The baked N.O.T. had been frozen, so I just nuked them till they came apart, then dumped them in the pot and used a masher on them - enough to leave some good chunks.

Just the ticket on a cold afternoon.

Daughter just took her daddy to the Urgent Care place at the county hospital. He’s afraid he may have bronchitis, and he’s supposed to fly to AZ next week, so getting better is a big deal.

His mom just called - she worries so much. Such a mom…

Off to veg for me.

Howdy Y’all! I be home from another day of irk. One more day this week. YAY!

BusDude I find it comfortin’ to know that you’ve chosen to go out in public wearin’ pants. BTW, for BBBobbio’s and your knowledge, kilts do nuttin’ for me.

Dindin tonight is leftover poke tenderloin ala keithT, succotash and wild rice. easy to do and should be nummy.

Ok, off to do other stuff.

Later Y’all!

It’s bronchitis, they think… at least he’s got some antibiotics and he’s supposed to stay hydrated. So we shall see…

Our phone is on the fritz - as long as the answering machine is off, it’s good. So we have no answering machine. No biggie, right?

Off to check the mailbox. Still waiting on my Secret Santa gift. I’m feeling so unloved. :frowning:

I skipped the gym today, because my tummy was acting up. I’ll be back at it tomorrow.

Mommm - that soup looks heavenly! Sending healing thoughts to FCD.

We are having a huge thunderboomer coming through. It’s been pouring down raining all day. Dad and I did venture out to pick up his new earpiece for his hearing aid. He is so glad to be able to talk with us again!

I’ve got chicken parts marinating in red wine for Coq au Vin tomorrow. Everybody brought us wine for Christmas, and nobody really drinks it. Tonight we’re having fried catfish. Mmm!

Yay for pants!

Bobbye the Froggye died. I’m guessing it was sometime over the weekend when it got cold. I thought wrapping a towel around her cage would keep the heat in. Guess not. :frowning:

I would have preferred finding her *before *I added more water to the cage, though.

RIP Bobbye the Froggye.

Rebo I was tryin’ to picture catfish au vin in my mind but I just can’t see it. Maybe if one used ripple?

Poke Tenderloin ala KeithT is even better leftover I do believe. YUM!

I’m glad the wifey is doing better, Bobbio.

Sending healing thoughts to **FCD. **

It’s rare, but every once in awhile, I see a fine specimen of a man in a kilt. Most guys look kind of dorky in them, but once awhile…well, ahem, it’s a pleasure to look upon.

I need to warm up some chop-chop. I was all in the mood for more prime rib soup, but hubby wants to finish of the last of the roast, mashed potatoes, and gravy. Maybe I’ll heat that up for him, and eat soup myself.

It snowed this morning. We had a about two inches out here. It was snowing again just as I arrived home. It’s not really supposed to stick around or give us any real accumulation, though. This is fine with me.

Given that you’re not at work, what do you need your composure for?

LiLi, there was a “suggestion” at work recently to have “sugar-free” cookies and similar stuff in the snacks machine, “for the people who are on diets and the diabetics”, and I was thinking “sugar-free my ass, ‘no sugar added’, ‘no glucose added’ - but you can’t have potato chips without sugar and nobody puts sugar in them!” I wanted to make a suggestion to organize some seminars on food chemistry and have them count as worked hours (hey, it’s safety training!)

FCM, I don’t think VBob is so scary as to justify taking to one’s bed just because he approaches. Seriously.

I’ll be spending tomorrow night in a hotel. Turns out that everything (trains, buses, rental car agents) close down at 7pm; since my train arrives midpoint at 19:31 and there isn’t any earlier mode of transportation I can take, and the Bros will both be out of town, night in a hotel and then take an early train to the end. It’s like when I was coming from abroad, only if I’d had the complete information sooner I would have been able to ask for tomorrow off or something… oh well. At least the hotel I reserved includes internet in the price.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. At least it’s the last day of irk for the week.

I wonder what wonders irk will produce today. How many last minute panicky people will call? I predict a day fraught with drama! Or not.

I don’t know what dindin will be tonight. Maybe sammiches. Da bear ain’t cookin’. Tomorrow evenin’ we’re havin’ a few friends over and doin’ appetizer type stuff like hot wings, mozzarella sticks, meatballs (frozen from Sam’s Club, just heat and eat! A modern marvel!) and the like. Plus adult beverages. Should be fun. I’m even allowin’ thing JDD’s Bro lives with in da cave. I am so generous!

Ok, I must ingest more caffiene and find brekkies for rumbly tummy. Then irk purtification must commence.

Happy Thursday Y’all!

Up. Teeth brushed. That’s all so far. **FCD **has gone to work. I think he’s insane, but I know I couldn’t have stopped him. With luck, they’ll see how sick he is and send him home. My midsection is starting to hurt from coughing. It’s gonna be a long, unpleasant day. Maybe starting with a cup of tea will help. We shall see.

I slept like death again, except when I woke up with a cat curled up on my chest. He used to be content to lie beside me, but apparently now he has to be *on *me. Stoopit cat.

That’s all for now. Off to brew some darjeeling and maybe make some toast.

Up and caffeinating here, cold out, but going to warm into the 40s today, so not so bad.

I’ve just brekkied too - grits and scrambled eggs with cheese and boy was it good! Now I gotta get up and outta here. I missed it, but happy belated Lissiversary!

It’s the next to the last day of the year, and that last -work- day of the year, at least for me. I hope everyone enjoys the day today, even those of us who have to go to work.

Coastie caffeination underway for the last time. Sad I’m not, but anxieties abound for moving to Mooooooomland. Let’s see what kind of ruckus is raised when I change my Facebook status to “Is now unemployed…” tonight.

VWife continues to improve. I’m having to wait on her less as she adapts.
