I don’t understand the last episode of the ENTERPRISE. Nothing happened in it. Some of the crew went to this comet and walked around building a snowman (question #1: since this comet wouldn’t be big enough to have much gravity, why weren’t the men shown floating around or wearing lead boots or something?) and then drilled down to get a core sample and see if there was some special mineral there. They waited too long and the grapling hook from theEnterprise couldn’t bring them up when the ice melted as the sun rose on the comet because the little scout ship had sunk into a hole. The captain was persuaded by Te Pau the Vulcan lady that he should ask the Vulcan ship captain who was hovering around nearby to use their tractor beam, which he did.
The point was that sometimes in life we must call upon help from others, who we don’t like and who hate us. (There is always a big humanistic message in anything from the Roddenberry works, which is fine, but I like the science stuff). Question 2) was this really worth bothering with, this whole episode? The other ones were very good. question 3) Why does T Pau the Vulcan stay on the ship instead of returning home in this episode, or in any other? Sometimes she acts like she doesn’t like humans. Question 4) If Vulcans are so rational, how can they possibly be involved in rituals and candles? I hate rituals and candles and don’t think they go with rational thinking people. Rituals and all that are embarrassing and seem stupid to me as well as pretentious and another opportunity for people to misbehave. But that’s another thread. Getting back to Question 3, is Te Pal falling in love with the engineer guy? He is the most appealing character next to her on board, so it would be natural for them to get together. I would think that they turn out to be Spock’s parents, who isn’t born yet, but I recall that Spock’s mother was the one who was human and his father was a horrible stick and couldn’t be the down to earth engineer.
