The Eve Appreciation Thread

I always open Eve’s threads - they are among my favorites on the board. Her posts are always entertaining, witty, smart and funny. I have no idea what she looks like but imagine her in 1930’s New York elegance - with a small dog and a view of Central Park.

I am in total agreement. And you know, anyone who has a three-letter palindromic name has to be one absolutely wonderful poster.

Eve is so much more than that.

Eve when you first can out on the board I admired your courage. Now I can only say you have my greatest respect.

Besides you give me hope that I’m not the only person alive who knows Tom Conway was not on the Carol Burnett Show.

Even in computerized confusion, she maintains a quiet dignity that I dearly wish my users had.

Eve, if you’re ever having any troubles, you know who to ask. Or even any questions. Do you have a thousand images from movies to organize? A need to organize quotes and sayings?

Or just a magazine about death to put out? You know, from anyone else, it would be dreadful. But from you, Even, I know it would be tasteful, it would be tactful, respectful, and it would be art. Because you are grace and dignity, at heart.

Anybody who can’t appreciate Eve for the splendid, hilarious, pissant-brave, gorgeous woman she is doesn’t deserve her notice anyway.

She totally bowled me over in print, way back when she went under the moniker Flora McFlimsey. (Try being a cowed newbie in that company!) She’s slowly revealed more of herself over time–and all of it’s been great, dang it.

SHIT! She’s erudite, hilarious, brave, drop-dead gorgeous and kind to boot. (So okay, sometimes she’s astringent but she’s never MEAN.) She’s a meld of Alice Roosevelt Longworth, Ros Russell of “The Front Page” and Jackie Kennedy Onassis. Sorta. Though that’s too limiting.

One of these 'ol fine days, if I’m lucky, I’m gonna make it back to NYC (or wherever) to share tea and some of the best company/conversation going with Eve. Couldn’t ask or hope for anything finer, folks.

In January of 2002, I made my first ever trip to NYC, for the MegaFest. I was already geeked out of my mind that I was there. So excited I was chewing my own toes.

Then…I got to meet Eve. I had tea with her, **MissCreant, ** and **manhattan, ** at the Algonquin.

I will never, ever forget it. I was terrified. My brain was just racing…“Oh god, EVE…I’m looking at EVE…oh damn, I hope I just didn’t make her think I’m stupid…EVE…oh holy Toledo I’m having tea with EVE…”

She’s awesome. Witty, charming, lovely, smart, talented…everything I aspire to be when I grow up.

Thank you for letting me share space with you, Eve. You’re one of the finest women I’ve ever known.

I admire Eve a great deal.

I, too, <3 Eve and am using up the Chicago Reader’s bandwidth to tell her so.

Yeah, what everyone else said. Eve is mega-cool!

Much gratitude to ** Nocturne** for starting this thread. I was stymied by the fact that there’s no e-mail addy listed for Eve and afraid after the comments of some members she might take a hiatus.

I have seen some serious jerkwad behavior on this board, but nothing has pained me the way these recent comments have.

And I think I’m so affected by this because Eve is such a wonderful poster, because she adds so much class to the boards. In going back to search for the original “All About Eve” thread, I stopped along the way and reread several threads started by Eve…and was just wowed by what a great, talented, intelligent lady she is and thrilled that she spends her time and energy here.

Like I said, I originally intended to say all this more privately, but clearly I’m only one of many posters who feels this way. Blessings to you, Eve. You’re the cat’s meow.

sheepishly backing away and looking for something to cap this overflowing admiration

So much to say about Eve, and so little time to type the Illiad.

My new boyfriend/fiancee was instantly aghast at the treatment of you in the unpleasant threads. In days previous, he had seen your pots, and I had made mention to him of your wit and broad body of knowledge.

To show him what a regal woman you are, I hunted down the Straight Dope People Pages to show him your picture. More humans should aspire to the class you show.

I have learned much through your posts about history as well about your personal experiences. You are class and integrity with seemingly no reproach.

While I had read some Dorothy Parker before, I bought the Portable Dorothy Parker on your recommendation.

I’ve run into a few men who told me during a date that they love your books and loathed the demise of your column.

Suffice it to say, you’re amazing.

Eve is…Eve. 'Nuff said.

(P.S.: I also adored her in her previous incarnation as Flora McFlimsie  )

By the way, could someone point me to the (People) link carrying Eve’s pic, please? TIA

I have Eve’s email address. (gloat gloat gloat)

Interesting interview, btw.

Eve is the cat’s meow.

Deadly: Thanks for the link. I had already seen that one. I probably erroneously understood that there was mention of Eve in some edition of People, with accompanying pic(s)…

Eve is responsible for a goodly fraction of the learning and laughter at the SDMB. I hope she knows how much she is appreciated. Fab-u-lous.

By request: The stunning nature of Eve.
