Falcon, that will work. I want to see it this weekend too though so if you want to see it more than once, Phil send me a line. I want to find all the right Georgetown spots. I am also looking forward to how they remastered everything.
HUGS!

Between seeing The Exorcist, The Omen, and Something Wicked This Way Comes on TV, I was one scared little kid.
I am really looking forward to seeing it on the big screen for the first time.
Hmm . . . I might possibly be able to join your motley crew.
Go pepper and enjoy, buy be warned- you will NEVER be able to hear Mike Oldfield’s song “Tubular Bells” ever agin without getting scared and freaking out!
On this point … I was driving to Shawnee, Oklahoma with a Southern Baptist preacher friend of mine when the movie first came out. He steadfastly refused to let me play “Tubular Bells” in the car because he claimed it was “devil worship music.”
The un-chopped Jaws still works well. Look forward to seeing the anniversary version.
And The Exorcist could stand having the exposition put back in. I read the book first and knew what was going on, but most people haven’t. Last saw it a few months ago and it held up real well.
I’ve seen some “real” exorcisms on TV and even the Baptist exorcists use the Catholic liturgy–in Latin, even! Apparently demons speak Latin.
I guess I will see it…
…alone.
Damn, ya’ll got me excited at the prospect of seeing this movie (I’ve seen it several times, only cut and on TV), and now I find out it’s not going to be playing in my area. I heard it’s going to be in nation-wide release around Halloween; is that correct?
Another thing I’ve been wondering about, I don’t know if this is an UL or not. Several years ago I heard that Anton LeVay was a consultant during the making of the film. For his help, the film makers offered him a copy of the movie; LeVay refused, claiming he would never allow that movie in his house because it was evil.
Any truth to this?
DCers who were interested in seeing this together, are you still interested? I know Falcon told me she still wants to go, what about you Sqrl & DC? Pun? Maybe Saturday during BROAD DAYLIGHT or something? May go to the movie and off to a health lunch somewhere…
SIDEBAR: Falc–we decided against the Bangles.
Cheers!
Cabbage, did you ever find out if that’s true? It’s not in my area right now either.

Every Catholic dioesces in the world has a priest trained in the Rite of Exorcism

The only thing I really loved about that movie was the Sound track.
Mike Oldfield’s track is one of the most apt pieces of music for a film, right up beside “Ride of the Valkyries”.
As far as I know, it will be released nation wide on the Friday before Halloween. That may be slightly tentative, depending on how well it does at the box office between now and then, but there’s little doubt in my mind that it will do well.
OK DC-area Dopers? Are we going to go this weekend? Sqrl and I already saw it last Sunday but definitely want to go again. Any time after 3 p.m. on Sat. or anytime on Sunday works for us. Maybe we could go see the movie then do dinner in Georgetown, walk up the steps (careful PL, don’t want to recreate your last fall), and see the house that they were supposed to have lived in?
PL, Peta, Falc, Iam? Anyone else? Let me know.
DC, you so funny! I posted this exact question a few posts up and sent everyone emails (including you!! :))
With thus far, flexible replies, I have purposed the 7:00 showing at the Cineplex Odeon Uptown tomorrow. I know its on Connecticut Ave (from the map on moviefone.com) in the District (it came up on the Georgetown regional search), which should be easy for the Metro-inclined, I believe.
We could likely grab some dinner before or after, depending upon everyone’s schedules/meeting time. It has now been seconded by Falcon.
That’s where we stand now…by e-mail and thread, we’ll figure this out.
Although I haven’t seen the movie, I’ve been expressing my opinions about adding digital effects to old movies in this thread: I just saw “The Exorcist”
Don’t think I’m gonna see it, though I’m a fan of the movie, and of horror movies in general.
Someone gets to figure out, for whoever is actually planning this (i.e. not me) what metro station is closest to the Odeon Uptown.
[hijack] pld and peta, since bluemonchichi ain’t going to Dave’s place, what is your preference for metro station and time?
[/hijack]
Moviefone.com says its 2 blocks north of the National Zoo. So I’m thinking you’re best bet is to take the orange line to Metro Center, then take the red line (north to Shady Grove/Grosvner) to the Woodley Park-Zoo stop and walk the two blocks. Now, we just have to decide if we’re meeting before to eat or something. We may be taking the Metro up ourselves. DC/Sqrl, do you know any good places in the area for foodstuffs?
Or, perhaps we could meet up in Georgetown, eat something there (if we eat before the movie) and then hop the Metro together to the theater. (In which case, Pun, you’d want to take the orange line to Foggy Bottom and walk into Georgetown (unfortunately, that’s the closest stop and its a few good-sized blocks).
Don’t know about what time Phil’s planning, but he said he’d probably have you meet him at Dunn-Loring since its closer to the Beltway.
Okay, dumbass question time…I may or may not be metroing…depends on if I think I could make it back to Silver Spring before the metro shuts down. (If we go at 10.)
If not…how the HELL do I get there by car from Maryland? Anyone? Please?
The metro doesn’t shut down until 2-3 on the weekends. There should be no problem with a 10 o’clock showing. There is a row of restaurants along the Woodley Park exit but they are not vegetarian friendly. There is a decent Vietnamese place there but I know you guys won’t be able to eat there because even their “vegetable soup things” have a meat based stock (chicken mostly).
Iampunha, DC and I could drive you to Georgetown if we have a consensus about eating there. If you write back and give a time we could meet you somewhere along the metro.
Falcon, do you know how to get to Dupont Circle? If not, go to 395 and 12th ave NW (there may be an easier way for you) Turn left on Independence then turn right on 17th. 17th steet turns into connecticut. Just follow it up and go under Dupont Circle and you will eventually hit it.
HUGs!
Sqrl
Okay . . . so if I’m following the line of conversation correctly, we’re meeting to eat around 9 or so at a place to get food (or not), then we’re going to the movie at 10 and getting to metro again around . . . 1?
In which case, I can get one of my parents to drive me to vienna metro and just wear something such that who I am will be fairly obvious.
As for Sunday, Dunn Loring works just fine:) What time should I be there?
