"The Eyes of the Dragon"

It’s one of the most magical books King has written, surpassed only by The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger, IMHonestO. [mini-hijack: when I first started posting on BBS’s, I thought the H in IMHO did stand for “honest,” and that’s still the way I interpret it even though I should know better]

Part of me would like to see a movie of Dragon, but part of me thinks it would probably be a disaster. Does anyone else think they should try? And, if so, who should be cast?*
*No, I’ve not heard any rumors that anyone is even considering making a movie of Dragon. Should we start some?

That is my favorite book. I don’t think I’d watch the movie, if one were made, because I don’t think it’d be any good. Yes, the book is magical but I don’t think that they could capture the feeling on film.

It would probably translate better to the screen than most of King’s work. That doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be a disaster, though–it just means it would be less of a disaster. A lot of what goes on in Dragon involves subtle maneuvering that would probably be lost on people who hadn’t read the book. [examples deleted to avoid spoilers] You could fix this with some exposition, but that would make the movie drag.

That said, I have no idea who should be cast if someone did try this. I just know that turnips still make me laugh sometimes…

No movie should be made, according to Aeryn’s Axiom:

Practically all movies adapted from King’s full novels will suck ass. Only short stories have a reasonable chance of making a quality movie.

Ok, Ok, no movie in real life. But you’ve just entered the IMHO Zone where any movie made of this book would be as perfect and wonderful as The Princess Bride. Only better. Any suggestions?

Oh, you mean like a DreamCast? (check it out, they’ve got one for The Dark Tower)

Flagg - I always pictured him as looking like the parking attendant in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off - “What country do you think this is?,” but Alan Rickman would of course be a top choice.

I can’t think of any others right now, but definitely check out needcoffee.com - they’ve got the right idea.

I’ll agree with this with one notable (very) exception:

“Misery”

Kathy Bate & James Cann? 'Nuff said. Unfortunately (considering “Shawshank Redemption”) the only movie to have an Oscar attached for acting.

Any movie would not do the book justice- it would have to heavily depend on a narrarator and the whole Flagg thing would be lost on a lot of people.

You’d need the narrative element, definitely. A lot of things- most prominently the character Sasha- are mostly described rather than acted out.

If a decent job of the movie could be made, my picks for (some of) the actors:

Sasha: Julianne Moore:
Flagg: Christopher Walken
Narrator: Anthony Hopkins

You know, they already cast Flagg, in the the TV miniseries “The Stand.” Same bad guy, different time ‘n’ place.

Of course, I picture someone more “weird”. Walken is a good choice.
