The favorite car that you actually owned

Thanks and I’ve always loved Chevelles. I had several friends in H.S. with 70s Chevelles and they always kicked butt. One’s brother still has a 454 LS-6 and while it’s mechanically perfect, we keep urging him to do a full restoration. That car is a beast. (Earlier typo: '86 300ZX)

'89 Toyota Truck. Best ever.

My Challenger R/T . It’s only 10 months old, but so far, it’s a match made in heaven.

I’m now leasing but will soon own a 2009 Saturn Aura and have been very, very pleased with it - it’s red just like this one: http://images.thecarconnection.com/sml/2008-saturn-aura-xr_100167479_s.jpg. Probably the best car (of four) that I’ve owned.

Tough choice, here’s a list of what I’ve had since I started driving:

1998 Jeep Wrangler (Still have)
2000 Ford Focus
2001 Ford ZX2
2003 Mustang GT
2007 Mustang GT
2010 Ford Ranger 4x4

The Jeep and the Mustangs were obviously the most fun, but each in their own way. I’ll say that I plan to never get rid of the Jeep. I guess that makes it my favorite.

Shouldn’t that '86 Datusn be a 300ZX? I believe they started making the 300s in '84, which was when my dad got one. I got to drive that car for a while in high school, and loved it dearly, although technically I didn’t own it.

I’m very happy with the car I have now, an '08 Scion tc, manual transmission. It’s fun to drive, has 2 sunroofs, great sound system, and gets great gas mileage. It’s probably my favorite ever. Second would be my old '98 Jetta, which was excellent driving except for the persistent electrical problems and lack of power windows.

I have to ask - why isn’t there a ’94 Taurus SHO on the list?

The first car I bought myself in 1968 was a 61 Corvair Monza. It had no park gear. The emergency brake was broken so I carried a brick that I would place behind or in front of the front tire then pick up as I drove away. It always ran like poop but it always ran. I eventually gave it to my mother who gave it to my brother who in turn sold it instead of giving it back to me. I still remember it wistfully.

I think my favorite has to be my 1989 Chrysler LeBaron GTC. It was an intercooled turbocharged 2.2L engine, and it was a pace car that year. It was my second “fast” car, my first being a Dodge Shadow Turbo (hey, I grew up in the 80s…200HP was a LOT in the 80s).

I could easily hold pace with Mustang, Firebird, and Trans Am near that era (I think they might have released the newer 275hp Firebird and Camaro then), and I could get 40mpg on the freeway and seat 4 comfortably. I didn’t modify it or anything, and eventually it turned past 200K miles (I bought it with 146K in very nice shape). After the transmission blew up, I gave it to my dad, a mechanic, who fixed it and gave it to my brother. Who eventually got a Mustang and gave it back to my dad. I have no doubt it approached 300K miles before it finally left our family.

For sheer fun, it would be my 1969 Mustang. Shop by Category | eBay (like the red one, only a convertible). That thing would fly.

For utility in the land of lake effects snow and when gas was still pretty cheap, the 1984 Chevy Blazer http://4wheeldrive.about.com/library/uc/ucMichael_M.htm (Mine was tan and red).

For economy and dependablity (knock wood), the 2003 Chevy S10 that I drive now Autoblog: Car News, Reviews and Buying Guides (same color, but flat sided).

Hmmm…it appears that my favorite vehicles have all been red. :stuck_out_tongue:

I had some cool cars like the triple-white Grand Prix, Novas, and Impalas, but the one I remember most favorably was the 76’ Vega. The thing was indestructible. It never had a wheel alignment even after hitting a deep squared-off pot hole that ripped the front tire off the rim. In snow it would go anywhere with some weight in back. I drove it 14 years with the original drive-line intact. In the end I drove it to the junk yard because the body was breaking in half. When I would come to a stop, the steering wheel would raise up because the body was shortening up, bending up in the middle.

1976 Chevy Blazer that looked a lot like this.

Full-time 4-wheel drive and 9 mpg.

Loved it.
mmm

I’ve only personally owned five cars: 78 MGB, 98 Ford Contour, some year Taurus SHO, 73 Mustang convertible, and 2004 Jeep Liberty. The Liberty is the most useful and extraordinarily reliable, the MGB the most fun, the SHO the biggest pain in the ass, and the Mustang the hardest to drive. It’s between the Contour and the Jeep, and I’ll go with the Jeep for the 4x4 which is very useful around here.

'68 Lincoln Continental 4-door hardtop, bought used in late '74. Powder blue metallic, dark gray interior, suicide doors, showroom condition. Had the thing only six months before some drunken yoyo totaled it in a hit-and-run. I still practically burst into tear when I think about that car.

1989 VW Fox
1993 Ford Escort Wagon
1995 Ford Escort Wagon
I love the Escorts because they can haul all my tailgating equipment.

Yep, see the end of post #21. Good catch!

A 1988 Porsche 928 S4

Owned it for two years, then sold it for exactly what I originally paid. Boy, was I lucky.

Ha, the screen name is actually a holdover from what I used on a racing forum a long time ago. The NASCAR driver that I followed in the 90’s drove the number 94 Ford Taurus. I’ve since learned to not do that on other forums and have a non-NASCAR related screen name.

1992 VW Corrado SLC. It had the V6, and at the time was one of the best-handling front-wheel drive cars on the road. Unfortunately, mine had an engine fire that totalled it.

1986 Toyota Celica. It was the first car I ever bought on my own. Damn, I loved that car.

A year after I sold it, I saw it at a local sandwich shop. It had gone through two owners in that time and had been run ragged- it was totally beat up. If I could’ve afforded it, I would’ve bought it back right then. I was in tears at how it had been mistreated.
