Actually the film is spelled Sling Blade……
If you have seen the movie, how do you think Frank his mother would have felt at the end with what Karl did to Doyle (to not give much away if you have never seen the film).
I think Frank’s mother would have had mixed feelings. Maybe one would have been relief that she has gotten away from this abusive man. In a few scenes before, Doyle stated he was going to move into the home, and one could feel the trepidation of the mother at that.
But like many abused women, she “loved” her man and might have felt anger that he was taken away, and also that Doyle made a good income in his own business so this might have affected her financially. Plus since this was a small town, everyone would see her house as “the murder house” with lots of whispers and rumors from the townfolk which would have been negative. Plus, the police might have questioned why she would move in this complete stranger in the house in the first place and maybe in their minds, she may have authorized Doyle to be killed.
Frank would be happy to a point except for the fact that his friend was again a murderer, also he killed someone he hated who might have ended up killing him. Plus Frank might see murder as a way to solve a problem like this. What is Frank’s mother hooked up with another man as bad as Doyle? Some women tend to pick abusers for some reason.
What would have been the response and opinion of the mother’s/boss friend played by John Ritter? Would he have considered Karl’s act just or not? Would killing someone ever be moral and justified? Was Karl justified?
What would have been the aftermath?
