The FINAL mmm-song poll

It’s … OK. But not even the best song by Queen.

A part of me suspects it would not have won if it hadn’t been in Wayne’s World.

Don’t Bohemian Rhapsody and A Day in the Life have identical numbers of votes? What was the tiebreaker?

I count 19 for Bohemian Rhapsody and 18 for A Day in the Life.

Am I missing something?

Strange, when I scroll up to the poll, I see “A Day In The Life” leading with one vote, out of 82 votes in total. Is this a discourse poll bug?

ETA: here’s a current screenshot from my laptop.

Strange. I came into the thread from another forum and saw 18 votes for each. The poll was closed, so I assumed this was the count. After @Mean_Mr.Mustard 's comment, I refreshed my screen and now I see the extra vote for Bohemian Rhapsody. Just another Discourse “feature” I guess.

Thanks for doing these polls, MMM! I enjoyed 'em mightily.

Granted, I dropped out when I had Covid, but I still enjoyed seeing the threads.

Thanks for participating, Prof!

To add to the weirdness, when I count the votes manually (by counting the avatars), I get 84. But the screen says “85 voters.”

mmm

I figured out the inconsistency with regard to shown avatars and the stated vote total.

Some folks have a plain white avatar. There is a vote at the tail end of the Dock of the Bay row that is white, and therefore not visible. So it appears that Dock of the Bay has 7 votes but it actually has 8.

So it appears that there are 84 votes when there are actually 85.

This doesn’t change the fact that Bohemian Rhapsody wins.

I was out of town and missed out on the voting, but I’m not too devastated. None of the songs were even released in my lifetime. It’ll be more fun to participate in the post-2000 polls where the results will be much less predictable.

I’m going to make two predictions on the post-2000 poll(s).

  1. The individual polls are going to be hard to fill as fast or as high as the “all time” polls we’ve just been through. (that isn’t a comment on the quality of songs from this century, just the reduction in years covered and the demographics of the Dope)

  2. While there will be a ton of innovative new music in the nominees, the final poll will be dominated by the poppiest of pop songs, mainly because the voters end up voting based on name recognition and songs they’ve at least heard, which, given the demographics, is going to be songs so popular they penetrate into the playlists of even old fogies like me.

Even so, I’m looking forward to these upcoming polls. I will enjoy broadening my musical landscape.

That’s only because we neglected to nominate this masterpiece:

Username “whitetho”, which seems appropriate.

Running these polls has been a really fun experience. I want to thank everyone not only for participating, but also for keeping things civil and fun.

Put another way, nobody was any sort of ass.

Thank you!

Yes. Thank you mmm!

Yes, add my voice to the thanks. They’ve been fun.
