Well, I grew up in Ohio and the Cardinals were often the 4pm game. Usually Browns/Bengals for the 1pm game and then Cards or Cowboys for the 4pm game.
I’ve moved around a lot, but ended up back in Arizona for the second time in August. I also lived in Arizona right after college in the early 1990s. However, that was the Buddy Ryan era and I wasn’t following football as avidly as I do now. Of course, having home games blacked out didn’t help.
The Ravens are the team which scares me the most, although I think injuries may finally take their toll on them. Ryan is a defensive genius. Looks like the Ravens may have been hurt by that early bye week they got because of their Texans game. They’ve played games every week for quite a while.
Watched it here at the house. Is a damn sweet victory… My wife was a smart ass a few years ago and promised me that if they ever made the super bowl she would send me. Bawaaaahahaha
For the record, I did not see a “hi Osip” sign at the game. I am guessing the camera never panned your way.
That was one exciting game. While I’ve no idea where they disappeared to in the 3rd and first part of the 4th, they did show a lot of heart in their final scoring drive. Helluva win… congrats!
Yay for the Cards! jumps on bandwagon Right after the Wild Card weekend, I actually picked Steelers and Cards (unofficially) to get to the SB with the Cards winning it all, and my friends laughed…oh, the sweetness of vindication! Now they just have to be more like first half Cards and not so much second half Cards (from the Eagles game).
Well, the 3rd-quarter Cardinals weren’t of championship quality. But that 4th-quarter touchdown drive to re-take the lead wasn’t something that lightweight, also-ran, wannabe champion teams tend to be capable of. I think that convinced a lot of folks - including the Eagles - that the Cards belong in the Super Bowl.
49er fan here.
I’m conflicted, but I’ve decided to root for the Cardinals in the Super Bowl.
Thinking it over, the meet all my normal criteria for my rooting interest:
They are farther west
They have not won a Super Bowl
They are from the NFC
They are not playing the Colts (My “second” team. Oddly, in the ’90s, my 2nd team was the Steelers.)
Nobody on the Cardinals appears to be too much of an asshole. Boldin’s tantrum notwithstanding.
Reasons not to root for them:
They are a disliked conference rival.
That’s it, but it carries a lot of weight. The tie breaker is that, if the Steelers win, they will have six Super Bowls, putting them ahead of the 49ers. We can’t have that.
Go Cardinals.
(It’ll be nice to beat the defending champs twice next season.)
Cardinals fans are coming out of the woodwork around here. An elderly woman with a thick New York accent checked me out at Wal-Mart the other day and couldn’t stop beaming about the Cards. She wished she could’ve been home to watch the game.
And then after the game ended, my wife and I passed a guy on a street corner, holding some incomprehensible cardboard sign and wearing a (actually very creative) cardinals “hat” made out of a red pillow, and drawn on with a magic marker to look like this.
