Wow. Talk smack all week, then roll over and die at the end of the third quarter. Are you posting from the Steelers bench?
This is just ridiculous. We, the fans of the NFL and haters of the Patriots, are relying on Miami to show some pride and step up to beat them, because clearly no other team can.
Of all the teams that it could have been, why did it have to be the Patriots? Why couldn’t it have been a team with a respectable, human coach? Why couldn’t it have been a team with a humble cast of characters? Instead we are faced with the Hoodie, the Pretty Boy, and Randy Friggin’ Moss.
Oh, well. Life’s not fair, I guess. I suppose I can fall bak on the old “It’s just a game” canard, maybe that will give me comfort.
In any event, 9-4 is a perfectly respectable record, and in any other season it would be enviable. This year it merely signifies an also-ran. But on the bright side, the Steelers still lead the AFC North and may get a second bite of the apple later. Wouldn’t it be delicious if the Steelers beat the Patsies in the playoffs?
How about having the Patriots going 16-0 and then getting bounced in their first playoff game? Assuming the Steelers get the 3rd seed (as seems likely) it wouldn’t be them, but many many people would enjoy it nonetheless.
And the gameball goes to Anthony Smith!
Oh, and again, I’m glad we won’t be winning this game. Because nothing is worse than playing a Patriots team that’s looking for revenge in the playoffs.
Of course, if anyone talks shit between now and then, the point deficit will be twice as great as it is in this game.
You know, it’s not like I haven’t been wrong before, but who would have thought that based upon the first half I would have ended up being this wrong?
As for Anthony Smith, were my last name Rooney I’d be putting him on the practice squad approximately 15 seconds after the game ends.
Oh well, as a friend of my brother pointed out, it’s tough to beat a team twice. Maybe we’ll be able to take them in the playoffs. The Patriots looked vulnerable a couple of times; with Polamalu, instead of Smith, maybe we’ll be able to do something about those vulnerabilities.
Cheers to the Patriots. They outplayed us - today. Hopefully when we see them in the playoffs we’ll have their number.
Pats fan checking in here. I’m not going to comment on the game (except I’m obviously happy we won) as I don’t want to get into any potential salt-rubbing, but I have to ask about your comment above.
Can you tell me why you don’t think the Pats are humble? I watch a lot of Patriots coverage and they pretty much never talk smack to anyone. They always say good things about their opponents (whether they mean it or not I don’t know), they are always talking about what they did wrong and should improve, etc. This is also the team that pretty much invented the “get introduced as a team” at the start of the game. I probably would call them the most humble team in the league, particularly given their recent success.
I’m interested to know what you’ve seen that gave you the opposite impression. (And I’m not looking for a fight or anything, btw, just curious).
PS. Also, sorry our QB is better looking than yours
Your boy Bellichick is a bitter, apparently dissatisfied man who shows it every time he appears in public. Brady is overhyped- no matter how good he is seeing him get fellated on ESPN 24/7 is tiring. Randy Moss, well, let’s just say that you’re fortunate that the cancer hasn’t metastasized yet. I can’t stand any of them. While some of that animosity is new, most of it is long-standing inasmuch as it makes any difference- it is only a game, after all.
Also, they do run up the score. While I have no problem with that at all, it’s not humility to talk about how the team you played gave you a tough game when you won by 35 points. What it is is insulting. If you spank me around like a little girl, don’t patronize me by telling me how well I played. If you must say something, tell me how much you enjoyed kicking my ass, or barring that nothing at all. Telling professionals that they played a good game when they suffered their worst defeat in history is no less patronizing than telling a kid that he did well when you beat him by 100 pins in bowling, only you’re not dealing with kids, so why treat them that way?
If you can’t deal with people hating you, don’t run up the score. A natural consequence of success is resentment, and there is nothing worse than players who can’t understand why they’re not universally loved after humiliating teams week after week and show it on Sportscenter.
Well, no, there is something worse. Second-year backup safeties popping off about guarantees and the like is much worse. Jackass.
Imagine that. It’s amazing what a near-death motorcycle accident will do to your general appearance. Besides, he looks just like Will Ferrell. It’s not like he’s the Elephant Man or anything. But I digress. Checking out dudes is not ordinarily something I do.
Quite right, but I don’t see how this is Brady’s fault (other than for being a fully competent QB on an undefeated team). The media are whores and will always hype whoever is doing well - they know how this benefits their ratings. If Brady were bragging and strutting, he’d merit this criticism. I actually think he’s been about as humble as anyone could reasonably expect.
Are those sentences supposed to go together? I don’t even know what you mean.
I’ll give you one perfect example from week ago. Last week, the Pats beat the Ravens on a couple of questionable calls. Before all that happened, there was a 4th and one play that was going to decide the game. The Ravens stuffed the play but there was a whistle. Defensive coach Rex Ryan had called a TO as the play started. He wasn’t allowed to call a TO, but I’ll let that go. In post game interviews, Tom Brady said “oh, I heard the TO called, so I didn’t try to make the play”. Bullshit. We stopped that play, stopped it cold. Instead of manning up and admitting that he got a break on the officiating, Brady made excuses. That’s par for the course from a team whose coach has made a career of cheating. The Pats may be the team of the aughts (and they are), but everything they do is tainted just like Bonds is tainted WRT the HR record, because they have always gleefully cheated. Fuck the Patriots, they’re a bunch of cheating assholes.
Uhhh…excuse me, but the greatest quarterback in history played in Baltimore and his name was Unitas.
FTR I think the Pats are an incredibly smug bunch of douchebags, and Rodney Harrison and Vince Wilfork are cheapshot artists, but I have to say that this is off base. Brady was pretty clearly being sarcastic when he said that in his postgame interview. He wasn’t making excuses. You can call him a smartass, and he didn’t exactly acknowledge that the Pats got lucky in that game, but he wasn’t making making excuses there.
One of the Pittsburgh radio commentators made a good point about this game during the post-game chatter. He pointed out that for weeks, people have been saying that Dallas, the Colts, and the Steelers were the only teams which had a hope of stopping New England’s unbeaten streak (sorry, Weirddave). After they beat the Colts, they kept hearing that the Steelers were the only team left which could beat them. It makes sense that the Patriots were as determined to prove the people who said we could beat them wrong as the Steelers were to prove them right. In other words, even before Smith made his comments, the Patriots already had a very good reason to be psyched up going into this game.
Thanks for the response, Airman Doors. I’m not going to respond here as I don’t want to hijack your thread. All I will say here is: good luck to the Steelers next week and see you in the playoffs!
Give me a break. Are the Broncos two Superbowl wins tainted because they cheated the salary cap? Are the Steelers of the 70s tainted because they were all hopped up on steroids?
My uncle played ball with him at Louisville. They would catch rides back home to Pittsburgh together during the holidays.
 #@#@ CBS are showing the Ravens instead of the Steelers!
I may go out to a bar, but I’ve been leaking money like a sieve lately, it being the holidays and all. Maybe I’ll stay in and get the updates on the web.
Anyone know what the line is?
And that’s 40 sacks on the year. When did they switch our offensive line with the Texan’s 2005 line?
